Wasn't even close, the V1 came thru like a champ.
The wife and I took the long anticipated trip to Charleston SC, driving from Marietta GA, about 360 miles each way. I had three encounters on the drive to Charleston, only one real encounter on the way back. All were KA band, all seemed to be C/O.
Interstate driving the entire way, KA Guard ON, POP was ON.
#1 - Outbound on I-20 about 60 miles from Atlanta, PSL was 70mph. I got a very weak KA signal from the rear, but I couldn't spot anything in the rearview mirrors due to the large number of cars and the glare. I kept getting the alert, which slowly ramped up. I finally saw the GA state patrol car about 300 yards back, tucked in behind another car, in the right lane. I was in the left lane, the last in a line of cars passing a semi. I was only doing about 75mph due to traffic ahead, so it wasn't a real save, but it was very nice to know the V1 had my back. It had probably been about 30 seconds from the time I got the first alert to the time I was able to spot the patrol car. I tucked into the right lane after passing the semi, holding my speed to 72mph while riding behind a couple of bikers, the V1 alerting to the rear the whole time. Eventually the patrol car came by doing about 80mph and took the next exit.
#2 - Outbound on I-20 - again KA band - PSL 70mph, about an hour after the first encounter. Traffic was moderate, there was a car every couple of hundred yards with everyone staying right except to pass, pertty much ideal for cruising. I had just passed a couple of cars, and was cruising about 85 mph. The V1 alerted to KA ahead with a couple of chirps, went silent for a few seconds, then alerted again, and slowly started ramping up.
I was going up a very gradual incline, with an overpass about 1/2 mile ahead at the top of the hill when the V1 had chirped the first time. I slowed down to about 75mph. As I got near the top the V1 was showing about 6 or 7 dots signal strength and as I hit the crest the V1 went to full strength, chattering away. I had slowed to about 70mph at this point. After the crest, the road started dropping and curved to the right, and about 25 yards away in the right emergency lane there was a GA state patrol car facing away, shooting KA through the rear window.
I think the radar signal had been reflecting off the underside of the overpass, and probably off the overpass supports in the median, thus the early warning (taking into account the setting). It was an excellent over-the-hill, around-the-curve save by the V1, I had probably 20 seconds warning from the time of the very first chirp. The key here aside from distance, was ramp up, it was excellent. I was getting increasing alerts all the way up the hill so there was no doubt there was a trap waiting.
#3 - still I-20 eastbound - KA band. Traffic still moderate but a little thicker now, running about 82mph, PSL 70mph. The median is all woods, the road is straight and mostly flat with a few dips. I had just passed a couple of cars and was still in the left lane with a VW Jetta about 50 yards back.
I got a couple of chirps from the V1, KA to the front, I immediately pulled into the right lane and slowed to 75mph. The Jetta kept coming, still doing about 80mph. The V1 ramped up pretty quickly, went from a couple of chirps to 5 or 6 signal strength, then about 5 seconds later it was full strength. I look over to the left, there's a gap in the trees, and I can see the front half of a GA state patrol car sitting perpendicular to the road, about 30 feet from the road, hidden by trees until you're very close. The VW sees him at the last second just as he's pulling even with me, and slams on the brakes.
I guess the cop is in a good mood, he ignores the VW. The V1 gave me about 10 seconds of warning. There was nothing but trees on either side of the road, nothing to reflect the radar except other cars. Not sure it would count as a save since the cop didn't pull the VW. The VW dropped way back and followed me for several miles until they pulled off the interstate, obviously didn't have a detector.
Enounter # 4 - KA band - leaving Charleston on I-26. I was still close to Charleston going into a long curve when the V1 chirped a couple of times and kept chirping about every second. PSL was 60, I was doing 72-73 mph and dropped down to 60mph almost immediately. I kept expecting to see the cop anytime, but the curve was longer than I thought, when I finally saw him, he was sitting on the right side shooting through the rear window. I had about 10 seconds warning, the V1 didn't really ramp up until I was pretty close, but this was no doubt due to the curve. I felt this was a pretty good performance by the V1.
Aside form encounter # 4, there was nothing interesting on the way back. I ran into a few cops, all KA band, coming in the opposite direction on I-26 & I-20. I got about a mile warning in each case, but since they couldn't cross the median at the point I saw them, and looked like they were just in-transit, it wasn't a save situation.
All in all, I thought the V1 did very well on Ka-band with Ka-guard set ON. Whenever I got a Ka alert, it was either a cop, or a speed sign, and I had plenty of warning given the setup of the traps. The stationary traps were all difficult situations, the cops put a lot of thought into where they were setting up.
