New V1

Hello,

I just purchased a new V1 from the wesite and should have it by Wed the 9th. From what I have read, I will program it so X band is off. That is how I use my 8500 now. I live in WI where they only use k,ka and some laser. The towns I live around are about 70k in size,so not real large. I don't want a bunch of bantering about who is best; I have been using good detectors for 16 years and I know how to interpret them. I just want any other suggestions on set-up for when I get this. I also will probably turn off the POP band.

Chris, I would recommend NOT turning off X. Even though you may think X is not in use, the LEAs can always go backwards to using old radar. That can be a major letdown if it happens.

Think about this way: during WW2, the Germans (no offense) had broken some of our morse codes; when this was realized an Army unit of Native American Indians started communicating in their native tongue to get the word out to other units. They went back to what they knew to confuse and deceive the enemy.

Better to have X detecting and not get alerted than not...

I dont ever ignore the KA band to begin with... also- why would you turn pop off? I have never had a false on POP with the v1.

I think that the Ka should be more responsive on the V1 in case you have your radio loud so you see more lights and hear a more annoying sound.

Leave the X band on, but run it in Advanced Logic Mode (big L). You will hardly ever have a false on X that way and it will still be tuned for those times you may go out of state where X band is used. As for pop, try it a couple of weeks with it on and if you are getting falses turn it off.

I had a lengthy conversation with tech support at VR about this and many other things.
Actually I was told that you can never tell if you are getting a false POP alert with the V1 as it comes on with gradient audio just like any other signal. No special warning and no full alert like the X50.

Thanks for all the help so far. I was hoping to have it run similar to my 8500 set up w/ no X and on highway mode. I run that everywhere even in the cities. It just takes more judgement from the operator. I may try it on the L mode with the settings right out of the box, but if it gets too irritating, the X and POP go bye bye. Also, if they update the V during the first year I own it, will the upgrades cost me anything but shipping?
