1. ## Question about K band. And arrows aswell

When i got my v1 i didn't know how much work it was going to be picking out falses. Though i have fun learning and playing around with the settings of the v1 im curious about some things regarding K band.

1) If an LEO is close and using K band will it ever show up under 4 LEDS? Most of the time if an LEO is using K band its been 6+.

2) About the arrows in general. Whats the deal with the side arrows? Sometimes i get a radar source on the highway with the arrows switching between side and behind. Theres no actual side detection right? Do side arrows usually mean its behind you?

The number of LEDs depends on how strong the signal is. In some situations, such as the radar beam being aimed away from you, that it could show up at fewer than 6 LEDs even when he's close. But if the beam is aimed toward you (the only way he can get your speed), it's going to peg the meter.

The V1 compares the strength of the signal hitting the front and rear antennas to determine which arrow to light. If the signal is hitting both antennas relatively equally, the side arrows will light. In scenarios where the radar is close to your side, reflections can cause the arrows to flip between front, side, and rear. There's often some "lag" in the arrows too. For example, you get a K band bogey to the front. You see a LEO coming toward you in the opposite direction (on the other side of the highway), and you two pass. The front arrow tends to linger for a few seconds before it goes to side and then rear.

Like kpatz stated, it can even start at one dot, it just depends on how far he is or if there is something blocking his view.

Yes. Most of the time your range will be limited by obstructions like hills or curves, so when you do come into the signal it will already be pretty strong. But if you're lucky enough that there 's just a straight flat road between you and the LEO, it should start alerting at low strength and gradually ramp up.

Sometimes my arrows toggle between front and rear! It happens, for example, if the V1's "view" of the source gets blocked by traffic and it picks up a reflection off of a nearby truck. The arrows aren't perfect. Like kpatz said they just seem to compare the strength, but if they're mostly pointing to the front or rear, that's probably where the source is. If they were more accurate they would probably also be slower to respond and change when you pass the source.
