Question Any bmw owners here? need some advice on a couple things

Any late model 7 series BMW owners have problems with their V1?.
I read the manual and it has a section about radar detectors and interference.
It says there shouldn't be any interference but my V1 is close to blind to everything with the front antenna, the rear works perfect.
I can see a cutout at the review mirror but there is no way to mount the V1 up there, its to thin.
It has heated windshield option I guess and there is some layer in between the 2 layers of the windshield that makes the V1 worthless.

So I am thinking it will be impossible to operate the V1 in that car, which makes me VERY unhappy.

I have no option but to finally install my 9500ci.
My question is about ideal locations for the control and display modules.
Any 7 series BMW owners have any tips or any installation tips and or pictures?
    Any possible mods?

    thanks in advance.

Not directly relevant, I guess, but I have an '08 550i and the V1 works like a champ! It has all the bells and whistles but maybe there's something on the 7-series that I don't have on the e60.

    Good luck with this.

Sounds like you're cursed with one of those windshields that cause RD issues. Would replacing the windshield be cheaper than buying a 9500ci?

I got a 9500ci sitting in my closet
I wouldn't swap my factory windshield to run a v1 or anything for that matter.
If it doesn't worth with what I got its history

Its not heated (unless that is a separate option... which I really doubt). It has an IR reflective coating... which blocks some radiation... that means it keeps heat out. However, it also blocks radar signals to a large degree. You need to find a way to mount it behind the little square with no IR coating, get an external antenna (e.g. 9500ci), or a new windshield... those are your options.

If you live in the US the only way to get that windshield for an E60 would be to have the dealer order it directly from Germany (for about 1 grand) and then have them install it. No E60s were shipped to US dealers with that windshield as a pre-installed option. I suppose you could also have imported your car from Germany yourself with that option. Same goes for the OEM bulletproof glass offered by BMW.

I think you are right about the radiation blocking film.
I has a weird cutout on the top by the review mirror but not enough to have a free view.
Bummer I will miss the arrows in that car

That sucks about the coated windshield. I have an 02 M5, and just installed the 9500ci, love it! I'll post up a thread with pics when I get some time.

Do the E39 M5s have this problem windshield as well? I have a V1 and looking for an 02-03 M5 now.

I believe only if they have the comfort windshield, which is an option that most do not have. You can tell this glass by it's shade, it looks a bit tinted if I remember correctly. Check out the M5 board.com(I am a member) before you buy one, great guys and site for all things M5.
