My V1 got stolen a couple of weeks ago and since then I have been torn on what to get. It is the same old debate: I honestly can't live without the arrows but I also would like to have some peace in my car. Since there is no product out there to satisfy my needs, I decided to get a V1 and add GPS functionality myself.
The plan is to use a micro-controller coupled with a GPS receiver that will essentially log all GPS data and V1 output, then mute the V1 when it learns of a repeated source at a particular location. You know the drill..
The question I was hoping to get answers on: has anyone tried to interface with the V1 before? Anyone know what protocol they use over the cables? What logic levels?
Since the V1 supports remote display, I am sure all the data I need is transmitted over the cable to the remote module. The question is, in what format? Hopefully the guys at V1 are not encrypting it our transmitting at too high of a speed that my micro can't handle.
I have a feeling I will have to reverse engineer this myself. The hard part is not the actual reverse engineering part, but it is obtaining various radar/lazer sources in my lab to generate the different signals on the bus!
I WISH i had my V1 to test this out, but I was hoping to ping on the forums first to see if anyone out there has some info to share. I have already picked out a couple of micro's and defined the schematics. But I was hoping to learn more about the V1 to help me narrow down the micro to the best one.
I am anticipating questions on COST. The simple answer is, the time and cost associated with this project definitely exceed the cost of purchasing a V1 AND a 9500xi together. To be specific, material cost is estimated at ~ $170 and i'm looking at a good ~30 hours of my time. But this is more of a challenge and fun project...
