Default First Impressions of the V1 *UPDATE*

So far so good. I just installed my V1 that I bought used from someone for $250. It has FW 3.858 and the original owner said he bought it new in 2006.

I drove around with it on "A" for a quick highway and mostly city driving. It was going off like crazy in the city but decided to leave it on "A" so I can get acclimated with it. I understand now why everyone loves the arrows. It is kind of nice to know where the approximate threat is coming from. I have it mounted up just under the tint strip on the right side of the RVM. It is a great location and looks good there. I will need a concealed display though... once I get used to it.

I won't be doing anymore driving tonight, but have decided to shut the POP off along with X band. What do you guys think of that? Should I keep everything on for now? I live in Southern Mass.

Also, when the V1 is in "A" mode, do the POP and X band changes take affect or only when in L or "little L"?

    Thanks,

PS. I have a "stealth cord" in the mail for easy installation.... although I purchased it off ebay for $9.95

    Hope your unit isn't stolen.

    $250 seems a tad low for V1.8 3.8XX.

Not stolen. I bought it from a friend.

If you own a V1 and know a little bit about it can you answer my questions?

Well I did in fact go for a ride tonight. I turned off POP and X band and it seemed to help. I only got K falses while driving around a mall area with lots of big box retailers. So far I'm liking the V1.

I think my next step is to turn on little L and change the K Automute.

I'm liking the arrows, bogey counter, and rear detection sensitivity. Been doing great for me on my highway time (1-hour each way) to & from work. It's "A" mode out on the open road.

    Any encounters with LEO yet?

curios to hear your review of the V1 versus the IX. I've been an escort user for years and am about to replace an older x50.

OK - I did some driving on I-195 East and West bound today for work. I passed 3 Mass state troopers on a 20mi stretch with absolutely no detection. The troopers were camped out under bridges and elevated from the road about 10'. The "cruisers" were perpendicular to the road and my car. I was driving with 5 other cars going the speed limit (65).

I didn't have X off... only POP. Do you think they were running I/O or no radar at all? I was sooo pissed that I got nothing on my V1. I haven't gotten any Ka band yet, only X and K while driving around the city.

The troopers couldn't have been using Laser unless they were shooting from behind. Maybe I'll turn my POP back on even though I don't think they run that here in Mass.

    What do you all think?

WOP, not exactly the same as a stolen gun. Not a lot of police are searching vehicles for stolen Rd's these days. Awesome contribution to the thread though..........

Moving on, unless you know for sure that LEO's are using X band in your area you should certainly turn the band off. As far as alerting on K band in the city; that is just part of the RD world. You got a great deal on a great radar detector. Congrats!
