On the highway, aside from the occasional X or K, every time I passed a cop the thing went off with the Ka band. (I also learned that cops must drive with their radar detectors on at all times because I would get alarms when they were even coming at me).
The day you assume that they're all using constant on is the day you open yourself to the risk of getting a ticket with instant on. It's the dead of winter right now, daily highs around 20 to 30 degrees, not really speed trap season.
So my questions are - Is Ka band the only radar band that the cops use in NY?? How about in NJ and PA?
NY? No idea. PA - only K, NJ uses everything.
We try to maintain that information here - http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...-8-6-09-a.html
Do you recommend using the Logic (or Advanced Logic Modes) at all times? I presume it will cut down on false alarms in the congested areas.... Am I correct with that assumption and will it miss LEO with that trade-off?
The default filtering in both modes is the same; it filters a signal unless it's greater than 4 LEDs in strength or has been detected for ten seconds. The difference is that in L filtered signals are not alerted to at all, and in l they are shown on the display and sounded at the muted volume.
Having said that, I believe that neither L nor l should be used on the highway. They were designed for congested areas with a lot of K falses that are usually door openers that point straight to the ground and rarely exceed 4 LEDs, but where a real alert would be from an officer shooting straight down the road who is close to you and so should not be filtered. On the highway it's totally different because you need to be able to detect a distant instant on blast that may only light up 1-3 LEDs.
Thanks everyone.
