infrared sensors triggers laser alert?

My v1 is mounted high just below the sunvisor.

Today i went into a carpark which had a sign saying infrared motion detectors are installed for security.

All over the ceiling there were motion detectors and my V1 was alerting laser all the time. Out of curiousity, i turned my car around to see if it would light up the rear arrow instead of the front arrow but it did not alert at all.

Could it be my rear laser sensor is not working? Or just that the infrared light from the motion detector just did not go through my rear window, past my rear seats and into my detector?

The rear sensor is much less sensitive then the front. The front has a big lens over the laser sensore, but not the rear.

If the IR sensors are overhead, the rear sensor isn't as likely to pick them up, unless of course you have a convertible and the top is down.

The front sensor, with its clear view out the windshield, can see the sensors overhead.

Same thing happens to me when I go through the toll booths in NH. One of the sensors for the EZPass system is mounted overhead, and triggers my V1 on laser. Usually only the front arrow lights up, but if I have the sunroof open, the rear sensor picks it up as well.

hmm...... intersting. yes i guess the rear sensor is not as sensitive and the roof is obstructing the view.

So far i have yet to encounter a real laser alert. One problem is i'm so used to the false lasers.......i'm starting to not break instantly when the laser siren goes off which is really dangerous.


The v1's multanova detection is amazing compared to the X50 though......just on sat night i encountered one and had ample of time to slow down from 120 km/h back to 80 km/h.

The IR Motion detectors that I am familiar with are all passive, meaning they look for sources of IR that are moving, but they don't send out any IR themselves.

I have a bunch of these in my house and they don't set my V1 off when I use it in doors. (for testing stuff and looking out the window for passing bogeys)

The only security system I know that transmits an IR beam, is something you setup across a driveway, or between a house and a pool, and when the beam is broken it sounds an alarm.

Was it rear or forward facing? How many meters do you reckon?

I dont know what kind of sensor it was, but I could see them on the ceiling and when my car was kinda facing them, the V1 would beep. Practically throughout the entire carpark!

It was a forward facing multanova (i.e. same direction as traffic) so it photos your rear as you pass it. I estimate about 250 meters. On a similar occasion, my previous X50 would probably only give 30 meters.

They should put that in car magazines, decleration distance 120-80km/h, they already have the time for 80-120 now they just need to keep the measuring equipment on when they slow down

Over here in the UK the V1 picks up the traffic master beacons on laser.
They are just for calculating the traffic so they can send out traffic reports of holdups and stuff.

I still find it interesting that my V1 falsed on Laser for every LED brakelight in town, plus sunny days, while my Lidatek NEVER falsed but otherwise worked great. V1 best for RADAR, Lidatek best for Laser. I found it better to turn off Laser detection on the V1 (just wish I could have left only rear Laser detection on, but not a current option).
