After reading the threads and post of fellow members on the effect of the Ka guard and wondering how the GOL test would have turned out different if they had used the V1 in a normal setting, Ka guard on, I did a test of my own. Some members stated that the Ka guard is just a time delay, others not. Well, I ran across a local with his Ka radar on sitting at the police station. Traveling away with a long 1 LED rear alert, I flipped and got on a dark access road that runs along the 4 lane. This was a great rare setup to test the V1 with a weak Ka signal for a distance test with the Ka guard on/off and pop on/off. I moved closer to the source very very slow where I noted the spot and location where the V1 got a front alarm. Then I turned the Ka guard off and started to back up very slowly to where the unit would lose the alarm. I do not know the distance exactly, but it was about 100-150 yards away. I then repeated this several times to prove the same results and they were repeated. The unit was powered up and down, I backed up and pulled up many times, different settings, also to show that pop had no effect on distance. With Ka guard off, the V1 would have given someone in this example a 4-5 second highway advantage alert. But I can not stand running the unit with Ka guard off with pop on, other Rd's make the unit go crazy and me too!
