Default V1 vs V1 with pop/ Euro

I am looking at buying a V1 of ebay and when i check the serial number of valentine1.com it says that:

V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.8. This is our latest and best performer on both radar and laser with just one exception—it lacks POP Protection. Of interest to those who drive in Europe, the latest V1 version also has a Euro Mode.

Upgrade Recommendation: You have a sophisticated security system, and we’re cautious about recommending an Upgrade. If you believe in keeping up with technology, particularly if the POP Mode is being used in your area, then go ahead. V1’s approach to the POP problem is superior to all others in the industry. If you drive in Europe, you will appreciate our new Euro Mode which improves protection on photo radar as it is used in the E.U

Is the V1 without pop/ without Euro good enough. What is POP, is it that much better?
Thanks

That V1 is either version 3.812 or 3.813. That's what I run. They are favorites around here and some think that version performs better than any other V1 ever made, but they have a few problems. First off, they are about 5 years old, so the odds of this V1 showing up in working order are <50%. It will very likely need to be sent into Valentine Research for repair, which costs $45. Secondly, they are notoriously in need of repair. Most have to get sent back to VR every year or two for repair. You're in Ohio. You don't need pop or Euro mode, so don't worry about that.

Thanks, the starting bid is around $200
Do you think it would be worth buying?

I'd go $230 max with it shipped.

You could get a brand new one directly from VR that performs just as well, comes with the factory warranty and is more reliable for $399. That's what I would suggest.

$200 would be about the limit of what I'd be willing to spend for an older 1.8 V1 esp. when you factor in the tuneup costs and shipping.

I saw a 1.7 V1 on sale for $380 earlier this week (I'm in the market) - I informed the seller he was insane.

I wonder if it's the same guy I informed a while back.

He called me a smart@$$ and told me not to buy it.

OP: call VR with serial # and make sure it's not stolen before you buy it.

Nope, sent me a nice reply asking what price I thought was fair. It was in near new condition, shame I didn't have any spare money at the time or I would have made him an offer.
