Has anyone does this? I can't see why it would hamper results. The reason why I ask is because I want to use the visor clip (with clip part removed) as a mounting base, if that makes sense.

There should be no detection problem in range! Do you want to see a forward arrow down or the reading upside down, eck! Not very desirable.....
I mount my V1 upside down as it in CD visor pouch, it make the control knob to the right so I can zip it up, and the arrows work fine.
Yes I do, but it is blurry.
It is level (I promise), I shove a rag between the visor and the roof to make it level. Mounting it upside down did not mess up the arrows. I made a cut out in the visor that faces the front, but that is only for lidar detection, which is not used in PA. The pouch should not effect radar detection. I never mounted it on the window, so I do not know if range is better or worse for radar. I never liked broadcasting the fact that I have a RD to anyone, esp. cops and thieves. The CD is the ashtray, making it stealth. The zipper does not appear to effect the rear anteanna or arrow movement. When in a shady area, I zip the zipper shut all the way, but do not drive with it completely shut due to insufficient air flow.
I had to mount it upside down because the RD is on the passengers side visor and the zipper helps hold level and the power knob fits just right. If I mounted it the correct way, the V1 would fall out and the knob would not be accessible. The power cord runs up the A pillar. I have used this with my RX 65 (upside down too, and pressed the power button through the visor) and predates the visor pouch sold by Roy. The visor pouch, which was bought at wal-mart, had insulation in it, so I removed it and drilled many small holes (might be able to make them out in the pic) in it to allow for air flow. The white mark on the knob makes it easy to set the volume at glance, so I dont have to think about how far to turn it even though it is upside down. I have been running this setup with the RX 65 and V1 over 5 years with out issue. Again, this mount would suck for lidar detection, but I do not have to worry about it in PA. However, Trailblazers and Infinity's do set off lidar, even from behind, so I guess the zipper is not too bad.
The only down side of this is that the visor cannot be moved, so bought a clip on visor extender and works ok for the passenger.

Due to weight reduction, I removed the visor in my Miata... just kidding. They were so ineffective that the previous owner removed them.
Also, yes, mounting upside down would be weird, but I too have a CD in the ashtray area
Not too bad. I would think that is more of the appropriate mounting option if you are in the city more. I myself just stick to the traditional suction cup.
I might try a mount similar to this set up for when i travel into Philly and park. Thanks for the pic mikered30.

Honestly, I think that's stupid.
