    Default My V1 is DEAD!

Well I've been relatively happy with V1, but today is one of the days that chaps your a$$...

To preface the story, I first inquired about my detector having problems here: http://www.radardetector.net//viewto...t=5204&start=0 . I sent the unit back and paid the money for an "upgrade", thinking I may be missing a lot of "bogey's" due to not having POP. As it turned out, my X-Band had been out for quite some time. It cost me a ticket and a lot of confusion. Though I was a little disappointed to have paid for the "upgrade" to *fix* my unit, the money seemed justified to have a working RD again.

Its the holiday season and as of this morning, I would be driving 600 miles in 3 days. The first leg of the trip was today from Western PA to MD. Tomorrow will be from MD to eastern PA. Tuesday will be from PA to South Jersey. This would have been the longest trip with the RD to date and my most non-routine. I was ready for an informative fast-paced trip through 4 states to see what the road would present to myself and the better-performing RD.

The upgrade was performed nearly 3 months ago. Today I turn the unit on and get a drowning half second "beee...." and no lights. Tried again, and again, and finally, again. My unit is now dead in the water when I need it most. This is a nighmare in the RD world! I have no backup, nor would I ever suspect needing it with a V1.

The first leg (~300 miles) went smoothly today, though I was very uneasy. I will be driving slower and cautiously for the next sections of the trip. However, for today, Valentine is on my s**t list. I feel confident that Valentine will resolve my issue, but it has let me down in the most unfortunate possible time.

That's too bad that it happened right before your trip. Look at it this way...at least you have a good chance of getting a brand new V1 right?

I would invest in a temporary backup RD even if it isn't another V1. Take care of it and maybe you can take the store up on the return policy when you get back from the trip.

On the bright side of things, maybe someone "up there" is trying to look out for you?

Ok, the fuse checks out. On two seperate occasions in my life I've seen fuses go bad on me that weren't really burned. To be sure this wasn't the case a third time, I took a trip to the hardware store and bought a $2 (now backup) fuse.

I think I'm going to get on the horn with V1 now and possibly send it out before I set sail.

On the plus side, it is raining so traffic will naturally be slower and what not.

There are too many states and towns with huge budget deficits. Yeah everyone says they're going to slow down without their RD. That usually doesn't last long though. You never know when you're going to run into a trooper that needs to make that quota, of that podunk town local yokel waiting to bust someone for "5 over.!"

I have a backup scanner too BTW.

I keep my Whistler 1730 around for a backup. It's a little better than nothing at least.

I've been thinking about getting a backup, but I know that I would just take it apart and perform weird experiments on it.
