So a couple days ago, I started using my Valentine 1. I decided to keep my Redline running as well so that I can compare. The Valentine 1 is positioned at the top left of my rear view mirror, and the Redline is positioned about 26 inches below in the center of the windshield. To be fair to the Redline, my understanding is that it doesn't emit interference more than a foot away... if any. Someone correct me if I am wrong. So not only is it not supposed to interfere with the V1 (my understanding) but the V1 could be interfering with it. I do not know to what degree though. Also, I think the V1 is mounted better for Radar - it got the top of the windshield, the Redline got the bottom.
I say that because I don't think this is a 100% fair way to compare the detectors. I want everyone to keep that in mind.
Now keeping that in mind, here is my first V1 performance report. On my way to work this morning, I got a super short Ka bleep. I slowed down, and kept driving. My first thought was that it could be this Tan Dodge that was in front of me. Green numbering on the back and a CA Exempt license plate. I always see that car out there though, and I have passed it speeding many many times. Remembering that, I decided that it wasn't that car. She kept about 1/2 a mile in front of me driving approx 62-65mph. I was gaining on her, but I slowed down because of the Ka bleep and I wanted to be 100% sure I was safe before I went over 55. She slowed down to below 55 for a while too. There was a truck in front of her traveling below 55 and I think she waited for a clear clear road to pass.. and eventually did.
Other than that, only 1 car came from the other direction. So I'm driving along, talking with my brother. Starting to get frustrated that I could have gotten a false. It has been about 9 maybe 10 minutes since the bleep. No chippie sighting. Starting to think about cranking up the speed when.... wait... what is that object under the tree shade? Getting closer... it kinda looks like......
Bleep bleep, Bleep bleep, Bleep Bleep x 100 (Valentine 1)
Bleep bleep, Bleep bleep, Bleep Bleep x 100 (Redline)
Going off like crazy!
I got I/O at about 1/4 a mile away. The truck and the CA exempt dodge had passed him. He could have visually estimated that the truck was going slow, and maybe he didn't want to hit the dodge... ca exempt after all.
So I pass him, and just as I do I see his brake lights change and hes pulling on to the road. I thought maybe he was coming after me - instinct probably. Turns out he thought my big white car would be a good hiding shield to I/O people coming the other way. So my Radar detectors went on and off like crazy for about 6 more miles. He would peak out from the right side to find when a car was coming... then drift his patrol car out to the left and tap his radar button. Well after 6 miles, he got a customer. Me and my brother had a good show. He lit up and turned around so fast that he left a giant cloud of dust covering the road. Fun times.
Pictures below. They make a great visual. =)
