I want to start this post off by saying:
1. I understand that laser is hard to detect
2. I have been a valentine one (v1.7) user for 12 years. I am very familiar with laser alerts
3. I live / travel ohio (HEAVY laser state and has been for 16 or so years).
4. I know that the laser alert is of little use, but I still expect it to go off when I am targetted.
All this said, I believe that my recently upgraded v1.8 (v3.872 software) has missed 5 out of 5 laser encounters.
In 4 of 5 encounters, I could see the cop aiming the laser device out his window at traffic in my same direction of travel.
In 2 of 5 encounters, the cop was actually outside his car aiming a laser gun (with the 2 'lenses' on the front of it) at traffic in my direction of travel. Traffic was heavy these times, so I could assume the officer was targetting multiple cars, multiple trigger pulls, more chance of an alert.. Yet no alert.
I will add in these encounters, I was on a 3 lane (6 total) divided median highway and was not in the fast lane.
This was an interstate, so there was likely decent distance between me and the cop. (wider beam should be easier to detect.)
I feel my old v1.7 would have alerted to laser. Ive heard v1.8 laser detection is improved. Sooo.. shouldnt this thing have went off?
I attempted using an IR remote control to trigger the laser. It set off the rear alert, but not front.
FInally, Im using this on an 09 Silverado, with the V1 mounted high up by the rear view mirror.
Im going to send this in to valentine one research to have it looked at. What do you all think?
