What would you do?
I've been lurking for some time and I want to thank you for persuading me from going over to the dark (X50) side. I've been using RDs all the way back to the orginally Fuzzbuster box with the big light on the front. I've been a long time V1 user, all the way back to the first model. I've gone through three facory upgrades, most recently from a 1.7 unit to a brand new unit with 3.826.
I also have in my hands a new factory sealed X50 Blue with serial number that I bought off of eBay before I found about the potential warranty issues. Originally I was going to upgrade the V1, sell it on eBay and keep the X50, but like I said, I changed my mind after reading some of the posts in this forum,
Meanwhile, I have two brand new RDs. I guess I could keep both, and use them in two seperate cars, or resell the X50 on eBay. However, I'm reluctant to sell the X50 because if it malfunctions, the person who buys it would be SOL, and I just wouldn't feel right about that.
So, what would you do?
if its factory sealed it should be alright
the blue ones go for more on ebay
if you need 1 for each car then the X50 isnt bad at all, its a great detector to have.
if i were you, i would keep both... your opinions and posts will get more respect on the forum hehe KIDDING
if you want to sell PM me because i may be interested.
Personally I would just re-sell it on ebay. I do not see a moral dilemma as long as you are honest about the unit's history and the fact that you are not an authorized dealer. Many buyers are simply willing to take the risk as you did.
Keep the X50 as backup. You never know when your V1 will get stolen, or if you will want to send it in for an upgrade. If you have two cars, put it in the other car. Switching RDs back and forth between cars is too much of a PITA!
yup the biggest thing is when you send the V1 for upgrades
which happens every 2 weeks
Re: What would you do?
If someone buy's it off ebay they can purchase a one or two year warranty weather new or used! 8)

you have the best now clean out the closet The blue was a good idea but its a nightmare when driving in the evening, unless you completly black it out, it will distract the heck out of ya!
You've definately come to the right place for a variety of opinions.
So here's another opinion.
Depending on how much time you have left before you can return the new V1, try them both out.
Decide which one you prefer for your driving style and area, then return/sell the other one, or as has been suggested, keep both if you have another vehicle, and use the one you like best in your primary car.
and brick called it, if you do sell on ebay, just be straight about it and you'll be fine.
also you can point them to the optional warranty that holein1 said.
either way, good luck and welcome to the forum.
I'm leaning toward keeping the x50 as a backup, and for use in the other car. I have to admit it felt a bit strange driving around for a few days without a RD when I was waiting for my upgraded V1 to come back.
I hate to admit it, but one of the things that drew me to the x50 were the blue LEDS. They match the blue lights and LEDs in my TSX, which I'm certain would make the folks over at HGTV proud.
I'm not so sure you can purchase the 2 year warranty for a Passport bought on eBay and actually get any warranty work done based on these statements:
If you purchase an Escort product from an authorized reseller, the Escort warranty will be honored only if you can provide us with a copy of the original invoice. We cannot honor any third party invoices that you may receive from an individual, auction, internet site or other unauthorized reseller.
2. EQUIPMENT ELIGIBLE FOR SERVICE
1. Only the original Detector product sold new with a warranty is eligible for Service under this Agreement.
Has anyone bought an x50 from an unauthorized source, got the 2 year warranty, and was able to ge Excort to honor it? Just curious.
Well, I used the 8500 x50 for a few weeks, and while I have to admit I really like it, I'm selling the 8500 on eBay as "used" and keeping the V1. Does that make me a zombie? Just curious.
The negatives on the 8500 x50 was the alert levels, horrible windshield mount, and having no bogey counts and arrows really is hard to go without. At the same time, the scanning dot is the best.
At the same time, I wish the Valentine had an automute, different color LEDs for the radar bands, manual brightness control for night, self diagnostics, and maybe, ergonomics/design that doesn't make it look like it ist 1980s military issue.
