    Default mounting ?tint band

What's everyone's take on this. I drive a subaru with a tint band along the top on the front windshield. I've been mounting up on top of the rearview behind the band, I've tried right under the RV but the top location is much more concealed. I had a what I thought was a laser hit behind a Envoy like right behind it, one car length.
& does the tint band only effect laser or other radar. I read the tech note on the v1 site and it appears that some do.

I have mine mounted just below the rear view mirror right in the middle of the windshield.

all depends on if the tint contains metal,

some tints are different, and some do and dont affect laser and radar performance...

a way to test if it does affect performance is to find a trap or radar falses
and test to see if mounting behind the tint reduces range!

i dont think its a good idea. i would mount it right below and get out the car to make sure its level and can see through the front and back windows without obstruction....i wouldn't take my chances on the strip unless i you lived somewhere that rd's are illegal

I have one in my Cherokee mounted above the rear view mirror in the tint band and in my work van I have it mounted below the rear view mirror so it would have a rear visibility for radar. I have no problems with radar range but in my state laser is not used.

I recently permantly mounted mine behind the black dots. I have no scientific way of testing range, but I haven't noticed any decrease in range or sensitivity. I used to have it mounted on plain glass in front of my visor.

I still get my daily K falses at the same distances. Laser sensitivity still seems pretty crazy since I detect all the Trailblazers and Infiniti FX's on the road. Especially at night.

The best part is it's really hard for theives to see since it's behind the dots.

If it's REFLECTIVE tint then you are degrading the performance of your RD. I would not have my detector on the band. Can you CUT a peice of the tint with a utility knife? Make a "window" for the RD. Just a thought?

I cant cut out any. Its a blue band, it been cloudy around here lately we finally got a sunny day so I took a look at it. Had the car 7 years never really looked at it. Ive been moving it around and it seems to work better up high in the band. Im waiting to find a speed sign. I think I got hit with laser the other night I was coming through the no slow I-pass lanes at the toll plaza around 12am one other car in the manual lane. I'm doing about 65-60 talking to my passenger and I get a hit for like 2-3 seconds it looked like all the bands had lit up, but I guess it was the three flat lines it was real short. Still not 100% it was laser.

Found this in a forum about the little black dots becuase I was considering a Toyota Matrix and it's got little black dots above the rear view mirror. Mase, do you own a Matrix like your logo suggests? If so, how do you like it? http://www.crownvic.us/forum/printthread.php?t=7371
