Default To Turn Off Or Not When Hardwired

When the V1 is hardwired into the vehicle do you need to turn the unit off (turn the volume to the off position) before you turn off the car? Or can you leave the unit on so that it will power up with the car when you start it again?

Will leaving the unit on when turning off the car (turning off the power to the hardwire) damage the V1?

Thanks for your answers in advance!

What I understand that it will not hurt it but I'm sure that other will comment on this also.

Leaving it on when you turn off the car will not damage the V1; simply cutting power to an electronic device never, as far as I know, causes any problems.
The issue that has come up with hardwiring is whether starting the car causes any damage, either through some kind of a surge or because of the repeated startups with the V1, because most switched power sources go live when the key is rotated to the on position, and then off while the starter is engaged, then back on again when the key is released. After some discussion, the answer seems pretty clearly to be "no." Many users here leave the V1 on all the time during starting and report no problems.
I would think that any well designed electronic device, especially one like this designed to be hard wired to a car's electrical system, is built with this in mind.

    Leave it on, no worries.

I have my V1 hardwired with a switch in the circuit. I start the car and then switch it on after a few seconds just to be sure.

It probably will not do any damage by leaving it on but I just made it easier on myself to do it the safer way because the voltage does drop and then spike a bit when you crank the car and I have seen this on a multimeter hooked up to the cig lighter socket when I did it so I felt it might be the better thing to do .

Mine is hard wired, to an ALWAYS on circuit...I have a SEPARATE switch that allows me to interrupt power to the unit...but GENERALLY its ALWAYS ALWAYS on...the few times i have powered it off, I've forgotten to turn it on and once i even got busted because the v1 wasnt on.

I leave it on, parked at the airport for WEEKS some times & have never come back to a dead battery (i dont recommend this, but the unit draws VERY LITTLE current).

Make a custom kill switch, works great. Allows stealth de-activation of your system without making any sudden body movements and "giving it away"

Very useful in the most evil state.

there are plenty of pictures of a set up exactly as you mention (including a remotely mounted, mute button) in my signature link.
