Valentine One longevity
Hello all, I have been a long time speeder but just discovered this forum recently. Where I live, radar detectors are taken from people cars all the time so I always make sure to remove my V1 when going into school/work/home. The question I have is, does removing your rd and transporting it around affect longevity or performance? I mean I don't play catch with it or anything but sometimes it can succumb to minor scratching and such. The other question I have is sometimes my suction cups will fail because it is cold out and my rd will fall onto my dash. It doesn't happen often but I am just wondering if there are any sensors which could be damaged on such an impact inside the V1
thanks

Actually removing your V1 can prolong the longevity of it, esp in the summer months due to the extreme heat which can impact the V1's performance. I wouldn't worry too much about the scratching and such.

Any drops your V1 takes cannot be good for it, if it falls from 4 or more feet
I would be worried and would probably send it in for a tune/checkup. If it fell from the window down to the dash probably nothing to worry about as long as it's not repetative IMO. For myself I keep mine in a visor pouch which serves two purposes it keeps it semi stealthed (hidden) and also keeps it secure so it wont fall down.

Just take care of it like a cell phone or something, don't hit it, expose to heat, etc

Re: Valentine One longevity
I got the travel case off the V1 website and just put it that, and take it with me into my office. It's a really nice case and it looks like it would protect your V1 from a drop and you don't have to worry about scratching it. When I am just running into a grocery store for a few minutes I always hide my RD's under the seat.

Re: Valentine One longevity
personally on sundays i like to punt mine like a football and have a catch with it with my dad... sometimes i like to skip it across the lake and see how many times i can make it skip before it sinks into the lake ( my record is 7)
...
anyway taking it down actually helps it as many have said before

Re: Valentine One longevity
I have actually never taken mine down. I sometimes worry about the summer heat, but it is behind a sunstrip that blocks some light. It does get hot tho, but I kept my 8500x50 up in the same spot for 2 years, and it still works well.
The only thing I would worry about is drops, and of course water. lol But luckily I dont keep cups of water under my detector, or touch it for that matter, so drops arent a concern either.

My V1 has only fallen off of my windshield once since I bought it in November and that was last week. I came outside to find it in my passenger seat seat so it couldn't have been too hard on it. Fell, slid off of the dash and landed in the seat. What was weird was that the hardwire was still up on the windshield, it had unhooked itself and fallen in the seat.

Re: Valentine One longevity
Thats weird, cause my X50 would fall off all the time, and my hardwire would keep it from falling. Maybe cause the V1 is heavier.
And when did you get a V1? Weren't you using a redline when we tested a while ago?

That's funny cuz someone on fleebay sold a detector and they said the screen didn't work because it fell off the windshield into a cup of water. I really didn't know people carried cups of water around in their car.
