    Default Crazy idea w/ v1

    Radar forum,

I just watched the video of CJR238's v1 saving him from a q/t / i/o (not sure the difference) encounter, while none of the Escort detectors noticed until its too late.

Apparently it's a threat in TX.

Then it occurred to me i may be able to get a v1 second hand for the same price as a gnarly ticket.

I got rid of my first v1 and got a 9500ix cause it was too loud in the city, but now i'm thinking of getting another to use with my 9500 for the highway...

    What do you think??

    Thanks,

    John

If your in TX, from what I understand it would be silly not to be able to detect QT.

9500 in the city, V1 highway/everywhere but city, sounds good to me.

My v1 does fine in the city. I actually don't mind it being so loud, but if you put in in the "L" logic mode it quiets down a lot. The little "l" logic mode quiets it a little, but not much. I've herd it called illogic mode here on the forum, so I'm assuming not too many people use it.

I thought the only difference betwen l and L was l shows alerts but still plays x and K at muted volume until X time or X strenght. While big L shows nothing until a certain strenght.

As long as you don't run the two together... that is essentially what I do. The V1 is good for highway/rural areas, and sucks the big on in the city... so I use it where it is most effective and only there.

If you're from Texas and plan on doing any driving on the interstates, then you'll need a V1. Otherwise, TX DPS quick-trigger will eat you alive. So, what I would do is hardwire the 9500ix and V1 in your car. When you're in the city, you can have the V1 off and keep the 9500ix on. When you are getting ready to head on the highway, you can turn the 9500ix off and turn the V1 on.

I run my V1 in the city and Highway but it does get quite noisy in the city ( I like allot of noise but most peeps don't) Also it's been my experience that my V1 in most cases is "quicker" on the draw detecting IO than my Redline and if your concerned about QT I would esp recommend the V1 since It can/will increase your odds catching that type of threat.

I would also recommend if you press fwd and get the V1 secondhand I would send it in for a tune/upgrade if able just to get that little extra piece of mind to ensure it's operating efficiently.

Cool. Thanks a lot for the quick responses.

I'll save up for one... This "stealth" concept's becoming quite addicting, as I often tell people about my equipment. (just 1 passport, so far)

Should I just mount one on either side of the rear view mirror?

I only run a V1 in the city and highway. I live in North Texas and run in "A" mode.

My V1 is not, repeat NOT noisy. I get the occasional CVS door openers and such, but mostly very quiet.

I get outstanding radar detection (lots of time to slow down).

I tell my wife about this forum and the complaints regarding noisy V1's - she says that I must have gotten a prototype (yeah, right).

I take my V1 on 1,000 mile trips (TX to NC) and (TX to Virginia) -- all the way in "A" mode including lots of driving in and around the cities (Vicksburg, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Little Rock, Memphis, Asheville, etc.)

    No alternate detector for me.
