Thumbs up Open-Source iPhone Radar Detector with Valentine One

Though I would post this here since some other might be interested. Ari Krupnik is trying to raise funding to build some new hardware and software to link the iPhone with the V1. It will have a cool social aspect also. Check it out, there is a video explaining his idea. If you interested help fund his project. I threw in a few bucks to help out, any little bit helps.

What's pictured there is a crappy ATMEGA ish chipset, a Cobra XRS-9400 series detector, and a bunch of LED's hooked up to digital IO pins.

I sure hope the next generation has a better attack plan than this.

Why does this look like a repost? I remember responding to a thread exactly like this before.

Not sure how this is different than the radaractive program/hardware..

[edit] that came off kind of wrong... does he realize there us something out there that already does this?

I think the difference is this is open source and open hardware design. Also Doesn't hurt to have competition. Cobra is also using the somewhat same idea with bluetooth. http://cobrairadar.com

Here is a quote from the kickstarter page

RadarLoc is open source, open hardware and open data. My plan is to make the radar data available on RadarLoc.org, so anyone can build on it. If you don't like my app, you can build your own--I tell you how to talk to the hardware and how to use the data service. Information wants to be free.

This. Not everyone wants to be tethered to the $hitty AT&T network....

Even Radaractive's Android development is "under construction" and has been for, IMHO, to long.

He needs $25k to get started? Yikes... He'll need a much better start on his own to entice people that he is serious, and capable, of producing something halfway decent IMO. When I look at that picture, I just don't see it.
