Default Radar Roy Should Be Authorized To Sell V1

With all do respect to Mike V. I love his detector, but I really feel he should authorize a select few to sell his product at the same agreed price, but of course giving Radar Detector.net a small wholesale price break. This would give the V1 more exposure and consequently more sales. He would also have to agree to other terms like shipping restrictions outside US. What do you think :?:

Sounds like a good idea to me. But I'm sure Mike would make sure about the price agreement thing. He would not want to be undersold. But more outlets and exposure would mean more sales. I would say...go for it Mike! There could be a contractual agreement that either party could walk away if it didn't work out for some reason.

i'm glad someone mentioned this, i have thought this for quite some time now.
i'm sure this forum alone have caused a ton of people to buy v1's. Mike should hook Roy up and let him be a seller for his product.

yeah that would be nice, mike is doing pretty good on his own though

do you think that the V1 resale value would decrease if it was widely sold?

    supply and demand?

    how about build quality?

I agree that it would be great. VR probably wouldn't go for it, though. It would cut into their margin selling wholesale to Roy so that they will be out the door at the standard $400. Then again they could probably make up for it on sheer volume. Maybe the price would even come down? Naaaahhh.

<<do you think that the V1 resale value would decrease if it was widely sold?>>

    >>Yes dramatically.<<

I don't think it would make a bit of difference. The V1 is never going to be cheap no matter how many places it's sold through. The resale value is high because a V1 has actual longevity to it. Even my 14 year old model was worth $125 on a trade-in; a 14-year-old BEL, Escort, Whistler, Uniden, etc. is likely worth about a penny, as long as you remember to scotch tape a penny to it. Look on Ebay - ever wonder why it is, so many people are willing to pay MORE for a used V1 than it would cost them to buy some of the other 'top brands' new in the box?

If a short supply of V1's was causing high resale values, selling them through more dealers wouldn't be able to increase the supply. Valentine can't just put on another shift at the Hong Duk Loo electronics factory in China to ramp up the output, either. Apparently Valentine is keeping up with demand already though; I traded in my old one on a new one and the total turnaround time was five days.

I don't want to see V1's sold all over the place (nothing against Roy). When you buy from Valentine you know you're dealing with pro's - some people have even gotten to talk to Mike V himself. Who wants to ask serious questions of a surly 19-year-old clerk or some gum-chewing phone-order-taker?

This is just one of the things that sets Valentine apart from the other brands. I like things just the way they are, thank you very much!
