    Default Hardwire Help

So I am trying to hardwire my V1 (2003 Jeep). I am using the kit from V1 and a add-a-fuse mini which is plugged into a 10 amp radio fuse, I then added a 3 amp fuse into the other slot. I clipped/stripped the end of both red wires on the add-a-fuse and the red wire on from the V1 kit and wire-nutted them together. My question is where to ground the black wire from the V1 kit. I have tried several screws but they are all screwed into plastic so I am having trouble finding something to ground to which I think is why it is not powering up. The radio is still working but the V1 remains powerless. I have checked all fuses and they all look good......you guys have any thoughts, is there a simpler way to hardwire these? Not too familiar which automotive electrical so any ideas would be appreciated.

If your rear view mirror is powered you can do what I did and buy the invisicord http://www.invisicord.com/install.html

thanks for the heads up on the invisicord, i first got the stealth cord from safe and sound, but that thin wire broke after two weeks. Ended up sending it back for a refund. The invisicord looks like it has a solid wire to push into the mirror connector if I am right.

Fine a nice metal surface. Drill a small hole. Drive a screw in it and you have yourself a ground.

Yeah, that is what I ended up doing, I pulled back some of the plastic trim and drilled into the frame, worked like a charm

Yeah see the below pic. They are very effective. On another note, I zip tied the invisicord right onto to the rvm cable to take the weight of the detector if it the suction cups ever fail and it happens to fall. It happened twice with my Escort 8500, and I came back to the car to find the detector hanging by the invisicord. The zip tie and tight connection of the pins held up solid. The invisicord would probably hold the weight of the V1 by itself, cuz the V1 is so light, but I dunno about heavier detectors. But bottom line is the product is good quality. It wouldn't be very hard to make one yourself; you can buy all the stuff at ratshack. If I ever need another one, that's what I'll be doing. Ya just gotta know which wires to use.

uhhhh i wouldnt try the power source until you find a good ground. Check where the fuse box is grounded to, there'll usually be a good number of grounds to the same point to the side or behind the fuse box.

    ALWAYS GROUND BEFORE ADDING POWER.
