    Default V1 Zombie? Me?

I've read the Valentine One website countless times, I've contemplated getting a V1 because of it's praises (I've weighed the downsides too). The range on the V1 is similar to that of the Escort X50 and the Beltronics X65 so it's not the extra range I'm interested in...

    1) I do a lot of city driving, I need a detector that can filter the K band in a major city. (X band will be disabled entirely.) I hear little L or something will help with this.

    2) My area is confirmed to use POP mode, my RX65 doesn't false often on this at all, so I need something that can detect POP mode. (K/KA band)

    3) One thing I love about my RX65 is it has never (to my knowledge) false on Ka band, an alert on this band is good as gold and I can visually confirm. Will the valentine false on Ka like my cheap cobra? Ka alerts every 1500 feet or be picking up Ka alerts from leaky detectors?

What it comes down to I guess is I want a detector that won't false all the time (maybe I'm asking too much from a Valentine??) and has excellent detection. Should I stick with what I have, or become a zombie?

i personally think what you have is sufficient, basically you don't need anything else, esp. since your a city driver and i've heard many recommend the bel/escorts for city drivers.

since you are curious about the v1, one thing i can think of that u can try, is just to try the v1 out and see how you like it for yourself. im pretty sure you can get a 30-day trial to see if really fits your needs (from what i've read you have to call up VR and arrange it but it can be done). its one of those, your damned if you do (might get annoying falses) and damned if you don't (might get superb performance that will make u a  4 life).

I have a V1, and I recently bought an x50 for the wife. Driving around in my city, I know exactly where my V1 goes off, on what band and for how long.

I popped the x50 into Auto mode and drove the same route through the city... the x50 falsed at the exact same locations and at exactly the same time. The only difference was that the x50 lost the signal faster after passing it.

I saw NO difference in filtering.

Then someone suggested setting Xband to City Low. so I tried that... Again, no difference.. expcet one X-band hit I sometimes get on a highway onramp with my V1 (in L mode) at 1 LED strengh.. that signal on xband was filtered.

On K-band, there was absolutely no difference in filtering. Every CVS in my city drives both detectors nuts equally.

Now as for KA falses. I don't have POP mode turned on on the x50 because of horror storeis I've heard... I may try it in the future. My V1 in big L mode has Pop turned on by default and I have NEVER had a KA false on the unit.

people like to repeat the myth that the Belscort models false less, and I have to say in my own experience that this has been absolutely untrue.

I will say this though: The x50 is an excellent unit and I feel its detection so far has been on par with the V1. Each has some advantages.

    V1:
    Arrows
    Bogey Counter
    Usefull Remote display
    Rear Radar antenna

    x50:
Excellent display... easy to read at night
    Very easy to program
    Nice quick release mount.
Free (albeit mostly useless) "smart cord"

From what we learned in my post, as long as you have one of the "Big 3" there is really nothing you can do about K falses but auto-mute them. AutoScan is supposed to slightly filter K according to Bel, but no one has seen a difference.

    2) My area is confirmed to use POP mode, my RX65 doesn't false often on this at all, so I need something that can detect POP mode. (K/KA band)
RX65 is one of the best POP detectors, if not the best. No POP falses for me either. X50 does POP false, and the V-1 doesn't seem to false more or less with POP on or off.

I have never had a Ka false on my X50 or RX65. The V-1 will Ka false with no "J" and also Ka false but "J" them out.

What it comes down to I guess is I want a detector that won't false all the time (maybe I'm asking too much from a Valentine??) and has excellent detection.

I like TeamQuack's response here. You probably already have the best for your needs, but you can always do the 30-day trial and send it back to be sure.

I want to thank you guys for a truly unbiased response. You all posted excellent points and maybe I am a bit picky. But I feel as if I do have the best for my needs then. I can drive peacefully knowing I did my research before purchasing, and that I can still say it was worth it 8) Thanks for your insight.

I finally found the solution, and it is no joke. I am going to buy them all. Thats it, I will not be able to live any other way. Have them all is what I will say. Then again this only applies if your just a crazy person, so if not then one will suffice, I have just decided, that I am, and I will have them all. After a qarky experience on a road thrip this past weekend, I thik I will absolutly appreciate the arrows. In the city, slower speeds, having more time to react, I will love the quiteness of the Bel/Escorts.

I asked this question before, but I guess I offend some people, but I was curious as far as the same spot falses, are the flases on the V1 weak, I know, as said before that they do last a few seconds longer (because of the additional rear horn), compared to the the Escort, or were they the same strength or stronger?

Ren, it's very important to remember that what we call falses are FREQUENTLY NOT THAT!!! We call it a false when our X50, V1, or RX 65 crys out in front of the Kroger store or Walmart. The problem is the doors operate on the same K band frequency as police radar!! It's only doing what it's suppose too.

This I understand, they are electronically identical to police radar, but thats not the false I'm referring to.

The falses I'm referring to are annoying harmonics from passing detectors that cause Ka alerts. I know Valentine has the "little L" and "big L" which reduce the annoyance of K band operating door openers. (The RX65 does not do anything to K band alerts besides eventually auto-muting them). I have heard V1's tend to report Ka alerts from other detectors and sometimes will "J"unk them out sometimes not, sometimes even "J"unking real Ka police radar.
