    Default Random K band spikes?

Hello. I purchased a Valentine 1 back in late 2009 and the unit has saved me many times, and always seems to work perfectly. However, as of the beginning of December 2010, the unit has been giving me random K signals. I read the Construction False thread and that does not seem like what I am experiencing.

At about the start of December, I started experiencing full strength Ks on 161, right before the Sunbury road exit, here in Columbus, OH. At first I thought it might be cops on the road, but this is now a daily occurrence. This is an instant full strength K, with the arrows being very unpredictable. A second later, the signal is gone and the device goes quiet. A few seconds up the road, it'll do it again and then just go quiet. This will continue until Sunbury is behind me. Sometimes, while at the Sunbury Rd. light, I will pick up 2 Ks at full strength and same as before, the arrows will either go nuts or they'll be unpredictable (not the same the each time I sit at the light), and they're gone as quickly as they come. I have checked this road for every possible source and I have come up with absolutely nothing. The only thing that gives me a signal is the grocery store, and I do not typically pick it up until I am right beside it. What I am getting now is something completely different.

Today, I made a little different trip and went down 270, past the airport and into Gahanna. I had never experienced falses here before, but like 161 and Sunbury, I got full strength Ks that would come and go, and this occurred all the way from 161 to the Hamilton Road exit (quite a long stretch). This really peaked my curiosity and I started looking for the source, and the only thing I could notice, were what appear to be traffic cameras on some of the signs. As I would pass these signs with these devices on them, sometimes the detector would go off, sometimes it wouldn't.

Has anyone else in the Columbus area been experiencing this, or has anyone else had a similar situation and can tell me what would be making my Ks spike? These spikes occur regardless of whether or not I am in A or L.

    Thank you.

It can be one of many things

    - V1 needs a tune up
    - Newer cars with k band lane assist
    - Traffic monitoring devices
    - K band drones

Got to this link and click the Traffic speed box on the right hand side. Around Cincy, Cleveland, and Columbus where it shows the traffic flow are where they have the annoying K band traffic flow sensors. If those are areas you are traveling in that might be your problem. If it is your problem their are few people from Ohio on the forum that have programmed the V1 to not be as annoying to these alerts. Maybe they can give some advice on the settings you should use.

Yup, speed sensors. I travel 35 miles twice a day with them going up 71 near CLE.

I travel 270 NE side between 70 & 71. I'll be through on again Sunday.

Valentine One section stickies will have procedure for K-band muting. I have a section of speed sensors in Medina on 71 and need to use 15 seconds of muting. No loss of use of the V1 as all K-band signals will alert at your customized volume, instant-on us at full volume.

When you away from the city just switch it from little "l" to big "A".

Does anyone know if a Audi SUV produces K band signals? Got some crazy ones today, and noticed it stopped when the Audi left the parkway.

This is what I deal with by me. Constant on k band for miles on end.

I believe the technology that is currently being deployed in Ohio is described in this timely article.
