Default How do I turn off the auto dimming feature (concealed display)?

    Fellas,

So I spent the weekend finally installing the V1 along with remote audio adapter and concelaed display (Will post pics soon).

I have noticed at night that the concealed display is dimmer than max display. I know I am not seeing things, because when I fire up the car (in my garage), I see it starts up at max then it dims by a few ticks. It seems that when it's light out or at night with a headlight behind me, it's at max mode. During normal night driving it's dim.

I checked the manual and the only thing it says about brightness is with the main unit, "Automatically matched to ambient lighting; no manual adjustment. (Unit powers up in the last mode selected)"

I called the tech dept. (Very friendly by the way) and he suggested I disconnect the concealed display and see what the main unit is showing. He mentioned it might be defective, and I could exchange it.

I had a V1 with concealed display a few years back, and I don't recall running into this issue.

I don't see why I can't have it at max mode at all times. Has anyone had this issue? Comments?

Just like the manual says, no manual adjustment.

You can not turn it off and even in programming mode there is no adjustment.

The CD has it's own brightness control, separate from the main unit. When I use them on my motorcycle the display brightness cycles under each pasing stret light at night.

You'll have to move the CD closer if you want it brighter.

There's a sensor on the CD that makes it brighter or darker depending on the incoming light. But its a 'concealed' display right? So basically, listen to the beeps instead of looking at it.

When something is concealed, you're not supposed to see it right? LIke a concealed weapon?

A small dot of electrical tape over the photo sensor?

So it sounds as if it is not defective. I thought it was unusual that the tech offered to replace it. I figured he would tell me it can't be adjusted and that's that.

I can deal with it, but I would have preferred full brightness.

Since it is dim when it's dark, won't the electrical tape keep it on dim mode? It gets bright during the day or with light on it at night.

Yea you're right, I was also thinking about putting a small LED aimed at the photo sensor so it thinks its daytime.

At that point I'll just deal with dim mode. Coming from an STI-R, I always had it on full brightness. In time I'll get used to it...
