So I just got my V1 delivered yesterday. I work from home on Fridays, so delivery was no issue. While working from home, I listened to my local PD scanner online. I made mental notes of the locations that were being called in most and set out to run the nightly errands (groceries, dinner, etc) around 8PM. Anxious to test out my V1, I intentionally drove to the locations I'd heard on the scanner, but no sign of LEOs. I live in a fairly large suburb of Dallas, so the false alerts were numerous. I tried to sort through them as I'm trying to learn how to best interpret the V1 for my use. V1 really never shut up the entire trip and I couldn't decipher false from real. I got a strong KA and saw three LEOs parked at a Cici's pizza joint, but then I got just as strong of an alert from the grocery store.
On my way back home, LEO was everywhere...and I mean everywhere, but this is typical in my town on a w/e night. I was getting a strong KA alert forward, as I sat at a red light in a left-hand turn lane. I looked to my right and LEO was parked at a 7-11 (shopping) - but he wasn't the source of the KA hit. Looked straight ahead and saw another LEO approaching and then stopped in the center lane of the intersection opposite me. As both lights changed green, LEO crossed the intersection, passed me and, when traffic cleared, I completed my left-hand turn. I watched the V1 arrows shift from forward, to side, to rear and, as I watched LEO in my rear-view, he made a u-turn and then a left turn, to follow me. I was never speeding or driving irregularly, so it's anyone's guess as to why, but these a-holes just love to follow people around and run plates. V1 is still alerting strong to the rear and LEO is maybe 1/2 mile behind me. We both continue for about 2 miles and LEO narrows the gap. I turn into my neighborhood and LEO follows, less than a couple of blocks behind now. Just as I figured he's about to light me up, he makes a u-turn and heads back to the city street.
This "following" behavior has occasionally happened to me before (when I had no RD), so I don't blame the harassment on the V1. Still, I question if the LEO saw the RD cord hanging from my window when he passed me and that attracted his attention. I don't know. As for the V1, I'm pretty happy with the response, even with all the falses. It didn't make me more aware of LEO's presence on this occasion, but I wonder how many other times I've been followed and wasn't really paying attention because I wasn't doing anything wrong?
