Hey guys, just thought I'd share my recent save on I-4 down here in the Gunshine State. I made it by the skin of my teeth, and the experience immediately prompted me to spend the money on a LI jammer. I was driving home from work the other day on I-4 eastbound from Orlando. For anyone who knows the area, this happened right before the Deland exit where the three lanes go down to two.
I was seriously caught slipping. It had been a long day at work, I got minimal sleep the night before, and I was a bit zoned out on the commute home. I somehow ended up in the left lane with no one in front of me driving around 16-18 over PSL which was 70mph. As a veteran speeder, I know this was stupid, but hindsight is always 20/20. Anyway, I was cruising along minding my own business, when I got a single blip of Ka on the V1. FHP runs Ka along with many FL county SOs, so when I got the blip I immediately lifted and started scanning, noticing an overpass coming up. I slowed to 73-74mph when the V1 lit up like a Christmas tree with LIDAR. It stopped, then quickly lit up a second time.
Just then, my Ka started ramping up slowly and I finally saw him... The FHP trooper was literally peeking out from behind the overpass support wall with his LIDAR gun painting oncoming cars. As I passed under the overpass, I saw his patrol car parked behind the wall facing my direction of travel, still running, with the driver's door open so he could easily hop in and give chase. Thank Zod he left his radar on in the car and my V1 sniffed it out moments before being hit with LIDAR! It would've been ugly. Valentine One saves the day again! Sorry for the long post!
