Default Can VR afford to only offer the V1?

Is anyone else concerned that VR's approach toward upgrading your old RD may one day come to an end? I'm mostly concerned from a VR financial picture. Can they afford to keep doing that?

Economically speaking, isn't VR losing $$ because they only offer one great product that is upgradable for the rest of your life. Does anyone think VR should reinvent themselves and offer another RD like a V2?

I think in the long run it has payed off for Mike. I mean he has many customers for life. You certainly don't see that type of commitment/quality from BEL!!!

I know people say the unit looks dated..... BUT NO ONE WILL ANSWER MY QUESTION NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I ASK IT....WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE?

I'm worried about when bad economic times strike and VR needs to weather the storm because RD aren't being purchased as much. I hope VR has enough $$ to sustain and not shut down shop..making all our V1 obsolete.

to have all your eggs in one basket scares me.

Personally, I think the V1 design is timeless.
It doesn't look old to me.

I have no real problems with the V1 'dated look', but I will say that there is only so many times you can keep adding things before you hit a limit. I mean look where you are without a manual right now on the V1, its not the easiest thing to program.

Honestly I think eventually the V1 will have to be upgraded to a different platform in one way or another... you simply cant keep cramming new things on an old platform forever.

BTW: 'Davekr' There are many people who have had Escort/Bel products their whole life, and wouldnt switch to another brand.

Not to mention the lump sum of money you spend on the V1 -$400-, its basic human nature that you will be loyal and defensive of a product inwhich you spent the most on in the RD world -Non Spectre Invisible-

Now V1 zombies will say once you buy it you have it for life, unlike having to buy a new (other brand) once every 3 or so years, which is true, but again humans RARELY think in the long-term and they figure short term is what matters, not to mention if their 300dollar detector saves them twice, they figure 'hmmm probably 2-300 dollar tickets, it justifies me buying another one because not only did it pay foritself once, it basically saved me on a second ticket, which would be like buying two'. (And lets face it the Belscorts save you more then twice.) So again its all basic human nature.

Anyways, it will have to update itself, its time is coming to an end on one single platform in the next 5 or so(give or take) years probably (The display is already starting to lack)... Even something as simply as a 'bogey tone counter' that shows all the present bogey tones and their strength (IE Belscort product) would be outlandishly helpfull... An 'easier' programming set-up also would be amazing etc etc.

Now this isnt trying to be VR vs. Belscort products, but its really the main comparison most people think of.

    Thats my .02

Yeah but that doesnt awnser the question, will VR remain solely with the V1 or go with an updated RD?

Its like your writing in politics with that 'awnser'.

I kinda thought about this the other day - and I almost wonder if the V1 is more of a hobby for Mike now. I mean, he's made his millions and if invested properly, he'd never need to work another day in his life and still be able to live very comfortably.

In summary, I wonder if V1 it is still a booming business for him or this is his favorite pastime that he still makes some $$ on.

Anybody know how many employees they have? This would probably provide a hint. Under 20 employees and I'm leaning "hobby". 50 or more employees and he's still in it for "business".

Either way his is a significant success story in American small business in the last 20 years. I only see him stopping if something major happens that renders all radar detectors useless - i.e. they are made illegal in the USA, or X/K/Ka drones are literally everywhere and broadcast constantly (scary), etc.

BTW: Putting this poll in the V1 section is going to maybe make it a slightly one-sided response.
