Default Who here has mounted their V1 by the tint strip?

This question is for ONLY those that have their V1 currently mounted by the tint strip area on the windshield or for those that have experimented with mounting the unit in that area. To those that have, have you noticed if the tint strip has affected the performance of the V1's detection negatively? I am considering in hardwiring the unit and mounting it right above the left side of the rearview mirror, but wanted to research if there were any effects of the tint strip on the detection's performance.

Update: Fire65 made a good point that I missed, my concern is with factory tint (question is, what is factory tint though). But please do state which tint you have, I'm curious to know if factory and aftermarket tint has each a different type of effect or not.

Factory tint or aftermarket could be a difference. Mine is mounted behind factory tint, I see no problems. Some metallic aftermarket could cause problems. Just find a known radar source, then do some testing of your own.

I have mine behind factory tint. I have no problems. I do how ever have very little rear protection. I am not sure if its because its an SUV or what the problem is.

I have my V1 up there as well by the factory tint. No issues so far.

Have mine behind non-metallic tint. No problems.

Same with me. I get much better rear reception in my convertible compared to my fixed-roof car. (Top up or down, it's better either way - the top is just a tubular metal frame covered in vinyl.

But the tint strip thing has been covered many times...

Hmmmm I wonder what could cause your rd to have a decrease in rear protection with it mounted high up. I too have an SUV (Sequoia) but I can't find any reason as to what could result in that. Do you get that result when its mounted in that area or just anywhere in the upper portion of the windsheild? What about lower?

I'm not an expert but I'm going to guess it's because there's just more metal to block the signal. The goal of a detector is to give you an early warning, which, because you wouldn't be in line-of-sight with the cop, comes from reflections that can get bounced all over the place and are unlikely to travel straight into the horn of the detector. Obstructing most of the detector's field-of-view with metal hurts its ability to pick up those reflections. Mounted on the windshield, the detector probably has at least a 180 degree view horizontally and at least a 90 degree view vertically, so for all practical purposes it's not being blocked from receiving radar from the front. The rear is a different story.

I have an Excursion and it sucks when I need to depend on rear protection

I would like to get a STIR + in the next couple of months. I am going to mount the antenna on the roof of my truck which should give me excellent range.

I get great range forward facing. I am assuming that its due to the height of my truck. The only thing really that blocks my V1 's view are semi trucks.
