Yes, despite what V1 zombies/drones have to say... the 'automute' aka time delay on K band is 100% inferior to its Belscort counterparts automute. This would be a HUGE jump forward for the V1 to have the same 'sort' of 'automute' as Belscort material.

I think it would be cool. But I believe Escort now owns the patent on this:
    http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...number=5164729

And I don't think it expires for another six years. Whether there's some way around it, I don't know.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Valentine's "Radar detector that determines directional origin" patent actually expires before the automute patent does.

Yeah, pretty much any patent is completely possible to get around, just takes time and money (not to mention some smarts).

After all thats pretty what every industry is based on... 'deriving inspiration' from other people/companies.

Look no further then the Asian super-car shootout of the early 90's.

Actually, I think it depends a lot on the QUALITY of the patent. Well-drafted patents without too much prosecution history are often nearly impossible to get around. Cross-licensing is usually a better bet.

Add an optional automute like Belscort is OK but don't loose the current K band automute, I even E-mailed Mike and told him this!
Once you have experienced being hit with a partial or full tone instant on blast on K band every few seconds or minutes by drone radar when at least in CA the highway patrol use Ka only, this could very well turn out to be the best option ever developed as you can totally silence K band volume only, and still see the LED's from the drones hitting you in the front and back if you choose.
If this option did not exist or someone was using another brand of RD that alerted initially then automuted several seconds later under these conditions it would be too irritating. You would have to select K band off.
Turning off or turning down the volume on any RD would block alerts from X, Ka, Ku, laser.
Most of you don't know what this is like yet but it is starting to spread and if they start Ka we are finished!

I'm with Dave in the sense that it would be nice to have as an option but I would hate to lose the features that are already there.

It is very easy to get around a patent - all you have to do is pay the patent holder royalties

Example: In theory, Belscort could have arrows on their detectors right now - but it would cost them a lot of money since they'd have to pay Valentine royalties. They'd have to forecast a fairly large sales increase to cover the additional expense.

Same works the other way around if Belscort owns the AutoMute patent.
