    Default V1 buying advice

Decided to buy a V1 with concealed display.

Am I correct in that the best price currently for it is $399 + $39, directly from Valentine?

You can call Valentine and ask for a returned V1 which IIRC is $40 cheaper than a new one.

Other than that, there's no way to get a V1 with a warranty for cheaper.

If you're thinking of getting a Laser Interceptor as well as the V1, contact GreenRadar (of Radarbusters) about their V1/LI combo deal.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

Nope, you can get a returned V1 (can't tell difference between that and new) if you call VR for $40 less.

You can get 10 percent off by getting a returned concealed display too.

Thanks all for the confirmation. I ordered yesterday and look forward to using it - once I get familiar with all the settings!

My region of use will be New England and Massachusetts in particular. If anyone can suggest appropriate settings to start with in this area I'd appreciate it.

Drive with it in its default settings so that you can understand about X/K door openers and whether or not those bands are used by cops in your area. Watch the arrows and spot the sources of radar so that you understand what is using those bands besides cops so that you can decide on your settings in the future.

This is what I have found is used in your area.

One link on this forum said this:

Massachusettes - X, K, Laser, KA, Pacing with marked cars

    And another link said this:

    Massachusetts

    Arrlington: Laser
    Brookline: Laser
Dedham: Laser (I suspect K and Ka bands for radar) (updated 10/16/2008)
    Dover: Ka (updated 10/16/2008)
    Groton: K (updated 12/21/2008)
    Marlborough: C/O K (updated 12/30/2008)
    Medfield: K, Ka (updated 10/16/2008)
    Medway: K (updated 10/16/2008)
    Millis: K, Ka (updated 10/16/2008)
    Nahant: K, Ka
Norwood: Laser (I suspect K and Ka bands for radar) (updated 10/16/2008)
    South Attleboro: K, Ka
State Police: To add to unmarked cars there is a unmarked black expedition that shoots Ka
State Trooper: K, Ka (Expedition, Crown Vic, Charger)
State Troopers: K, KA and Laser but mostly Laser (I think LTi Ultralytes). The newer Crown Vic's use Ka, and theres one unmarked tinted out Impala SS that uses Ka. This is mostly through Rt2/128.
    Sudbury: C/O Ka (updated 12/30/2008)
    Walpole: Ka (updated 10/16/2008)
    Weston: C/O K (updated 12/30/2008)
    Westwood: Ka (updated 10/16/2008)

The first link would suggest that you leave X band turned on which is the default setting. The second link would suggest that you could turn X band off which would definitely cut down on the number of false alerts. The only way to know is to drive around in default to see if a cop ever sets off X band or to ask a trusted member of this forum who lives or drives through this area on a regular basis.

Welcom to the forum! I am from Wilbraham, MA a suburb right outside Springfield (West of you). I drive the Mass Pike, I-91 and 495 pretty frequently. The state troopers use everything, except for X band. C/O K band, C/O Ka band, I/O Ka and I/O K as well as laser. I think it's safe to say that you can turn of X band. If you have any questions send me a PM or just post up. I also own a lidar gun so if you do in fact get jammers (which you will need if you plan on speeding) I would glady test your set up. As summer apporahces you wil see troopers using laser more and more. You have made a great decision on the V1 as it will serve you well! All you need is a set of laser interceptors and you'll be good to go!
