Default Testing Response times on the V1, RX65(S7) and 8500/X50(S7)

Bigalinwv had some questions about the Valentine One and the theory that it parks on a Frequency after taking an initial alert. Also, Bilybob wanted to see some reaction time testing of my new V1 (3.872) in the various programming modes.

So I hooked up the radar and went at it. Unlike the detailed test from last year, I decided not to bore you with an hour long video to pin down the actual numbers..........rather, this is a collection of (3) vids just to show you in general how these detectors behave in different settings with respect to response time.

The first vid demonstrates the "parking" characteristic of the V1 on Ka band and shows how impervious it is to K-Band QT's with POP enabled. The next video checks out the Valentine with POP disabled and then Ka Guard turned off. And finally, the last video is a demo of the Bel RX65 and Escort 8500/X50 (both S7 models) using some different settings.

I'll post the vids just as soon as each completes the upload to YouTube.

Edit: As other members have indicated, "parking" is not entirely accurate in describing the V1's behavior during the 10 or so seconds after taking a Ka alert since it continues it's sweep in search of other signals......so a better term was necessary. GTO_04 came up with a good one..........TKO (Temporary Ka Guard Override). Seems like an appropriate description of what happens during the 10 seconds after an initial Ka alert. Kpatz also has some very good insight on perhaps the real reason why the V1 holds a particular frequency in short term memory after taking the initial alert.

Great video. Now that I see it in action, I understand. Thanks for taking the time to show me.

Thank you so much Mike for taking the time to do this request video. I know how busy all of us are and it takes a compassionate man with passion for this hobby to do this to educate the masses specially on request.

I cheated a little and went on your youtube channel to watch the other video with Ka guard off. So what we have learned so far, for the seond time

    1. You cannot beat a v1 in any configuration to a k band quick trigger.
    2. Don't get a false sense of security that you will catch all q/t on ka band unless you have ka guard off
    3. The only way I would run a v1 with redline (M3) is with ka guard off for full protection since you might be sacrificing some of the capabilities of the redline due to interference.
    4. The folks over at belscort know how to fix the q/t problem but choose to ignore it for reasons that I am not going to speculate about.

I was hoping a second round of tests would alleviate my fear that you have to run v1 with ka guard off for full protection. By my estimation, right on the money from your tests of last May, v1 alerts to a shot around 400ms and above with ka guard enabled. It takes around 250ms for modern police guns to attain speed of an object.

Also the parking myth is finally proven to be correct. Filteration in whichever form, always slows down a detector, even the mighty v1

Thanks again for all that you do.
    Best Regards
    Bill.

Great demonstration of how the V1 parks itself on a frequency.

A great demo for proving that the V1 is susceptible to QT. Case closed. Excellent job Nine-c1.

    Very good demonstration and explanation.

However, in my opinion the term "park" should not be used to describe this.

I agree Jim.....it implies that the V1 stops the hunt for other signals which it does not. It really is just switching over from a requirement to detect a valid signal on multiple consecutive sweeps to a single sweep detection for a short period of time (which I know you knew). Ha ha ha.

Parking is just a convenient (although not entirely accurate) term to describe the phenomena. I think we need a better term if anyone has any suggestions.

That's what confused me about the whole idea. Now that I see it in action, it really shouldn't have that name. Makes it seem as though it won't look for anything else while "parked".
