Default V1- Use Coiled Phone Cord, or Straight Cord?

Should I use the coiled phone cord, or the straight skinny cord? This being the case for both hard wiring and just simple windshield mounting. Is there benefit of using one over the other? I think I remember hearing one is better than the other. Thanks.

Use the straight cord... It's much less noticeable from outside and will not interfere with your line of sight as much.

the only use for the coiled cord is a temporary install like a rental car or a trip in somebody else's vehicle

I'll take the other side, as I mostly don't care if it's noticeable. The coiled cord helps keep the cord mostly out of the way. If for any reason I want to reduce it being noticed, without taking down the detector when I stop for a moment, it's easy to just unplug it from the detector and let it drop to the console. I nearly always take the detector down and stow it in the console, though.

Coiled cord works great on the motorcycle where the handle bars move with the V1.

If you are mounting anywhere that the detector cord may be caught, go coiled. As said, if you are doing a basic windshield mount using the cig lighter adapter, go coiled as if it gets caught or swatted at, the coils will prevent the unit from getting knocked down. I also use the coiled for the remote display and remote audio adapter given the location of the sun or lack of the sun determines which place I put the remote display, and I generally like to have the remote audio adapter velcroed to my steering wheel for longer trips, and the coiled prevents any type of issue given the 2 footer stretches to over 7 feet.
