I'd like to see what you have in mind. I always enjoy seeing what other people are doing. Although I will probably simply mount the v1 and 9500ix tucked in close to the rear view mirror using heavy duty double sided 3m foam tape in place of the suction cups on the factory mounts. (Assuming the dots don't reduce range.) Suction cups are illegal in CA so in my daily driver I like to have a permanent mount so LEO doesn't have an excuse to write something up looking at my windshield. On my last car I didn't have a remote mute switch so I powered my RD from the power line for the rear view mirror. But now I have the remote mute for the 9500ix on the dash so I have the RD wired to the fuse box.
I couldn't notice any difference and the folks at V1 said the dots don't reduce range. So I mounted a piece to Lexan behind the mirror to allow me to stick things to that area. Suction cups won't stick to the dots. Later when I get some more double sided 3M tape I'll permanently mount a V1 and Escort bracket next to the rear view mirror. For now the Lexan with suction cups works well. The dots reduce the amount of direct sunlight on the RDs and make them a little less noticeable from outside so that is good too.
It is 2mm thick and I slid it behind the rear view mirror bar that hides the wires to the mirror. That gave it support in the center. I put a thin strip of heavy duty 3M double sided foam tape on each edge. Holds very sturdy. In the past I wanted to attach other suction things in that area and couldn't because of the dots. So now I can mount other toys there when needed. The 3M tape is the gray colored tape with the red backing. It is very strong.
Back when I had my Corolla, my V1 was mounted high with Dual Lock, right behind the dots. Laser reception was killed, but there was not a lot of laser in San Diego back in 2007-2008, so I wasn't too concerned about that. I drove it past some known K-band sources (speed signs) to test it, and saw very little (if any) reduction in range. Never had a problem with it.
