You think it's bad when your driving near an Audi, try having a Audi S5 "with" a Valentine One. When I first got the car I immediately hard wired the V1 to the car and it was false alerting like crazy. I finally found a way to deal with it and that was to run with the K Band completely turned off. I ran with my V1 like this for about a 1.5 years, after that I decided to upgrade to 3.872 and then just turn off POP which is working pretty well.

They should use a frequency that sets off Spectres and VG-2s. Make them useless instead of our RDs.

Quick question along the same line....I am looking for an installed radar system in my soon to be delivered 2012 S4. It will have the side-blind zone alerts due to the "Prestige Package". I already have an LI Dual, but am trying to decide between a Beltronics STi-R Plus and a 8500ci Plus...Does the Bel offer any advantages for the price? Can I maybe drop out the frequency that the blind zone alert uses?
You can't simply turn off the blind zone alert system. Word on the street is that if you "turn off" the blind zone alert in the car's cabin, that simply turns off the light, the actual radar output still occurs. Some guys have gone as far as to try to uplug the fuse for the device. Maybe the remote sensor will be far enough away from the radar source? I doubt it....

Yes you can turn it off but it doesn't turn the actual radars from working, they still send signals. So your V1 will pick that up. Like I said I recently upgraded to 3.872 and then just turned off POP and everything is fine.

I'm very interested in this new V1 firmware to see if it addresses any of the issue with the blind spot and other radar controlled features on newer cars. I don't think so but still interested in it.

I suppose you could pull the fuse, if it doesn't affect other systems adversely, or if you know where the radar units are and can get to them, unplug them.

Why are you buying an S4 with that feature? Do you *need* the "Prestige Package"? I'd just as well deny Audi the money for unwanted/problematic features myself.

The Prestige Package comes with basically everything...nav, rear-camera, etc. You save yourself money by getting a package than by adding it all on a la carte. Unfortunately, you don't have the luxury of selectively deleting the side blind zone alert like you do with Mercedes or GMC for example (my only two personal experiences with deleted blind zone alert).
Maybe I will be able to unplug the unit...I'll have to check into it.

As an Audi owner, if you unplug the unit you'll start throwing all kinds of fault codes. These cars are basically one network so when you unplug something...a lot of other things stop working.

I have been told the fuse for blind spot monitoring can be pulled with no codes being thrown. I chose the other route, however, and just disabled POP on my V1.

I hate side assist, hate it. We need to all write a letter to AoA (again - its been tried by the Veil guy before) to tell them to get it out of police bands. How come the radar parking feature on the Touareg's/Q7/Cayanne are out of the police bands?

Anyways - if you have a newer V1 disableing POP helps quite a bit. Also I have yet to get any of those alerts on my Sti-R Plus, but my Sti still alerts to them (i/o every 10 secs). The side assist is a pulse type K band radar. We do not have Pulsed radar here in the US (no Iskra). From what I was told the newer Bels that are not Euro versions are effectively filtering these alerts out. Perhaps it is a coincidence but no alerts on a newer Sti-R plus from side assist.

Thanks for the info...now I just have to decide if the STiR Plus is worth it, or if I should just stick with my V1 and get the updated software....I love the idea of an built-in, but don't like the idea of $1200 and questionable Ka performance vs the V1. And no, I don't want to run both.
