    Default Extended cable lengths

I've been trying to hardwire my V1 and remote audio adapter using some longer cable lengths in an attempt to mount the V1 on the rear deck. I had 2 25' lengths (12v --> remote audio --> V1) but the long run resulted in enough degradation of power that the V1 wouldn't power on. I emailed VR and they said I needed to use quality cables and as short as possible to avoid this. My question to the forums is:

    - If you're running something similar to mine, how long are your power cables?
    - If successful, what brand/source of cables are you using?

I bought some GE 4 conductor twisted pair line cord from Lowe's - no luck. VR specifically told me the cheap GE stuff won't work. Thanks!

There's a vendor on that particular auction site that sells this kind of stuff for hardwiring. I've bought some from them and they're fine. Mine run about 10'.

Thanks - I'm actually looking for anyone who successfully used the audio adapter with 2x ~15' lengths. I've been successful using 2x 8' stock cables with the audio adapter but need something about twice as long (rear deck around doors to armrest then armrest around doors to fusebox below A-pillar).

If it were me I'd just take a telephone cord, cut off the plugs and some very short lengths of the original cord, then solder some beefier wires in between. Caveats: I've never actually done this and I'm far from an electrical engineer, but I can't think of any other practical solutions that would have less resistance.

V1 does not like the thin litttle phone cables. You need to find an older thick cable or make one.

It is probably the cords not flipping from one end to the other. Without getting into a huge amount of detail some cords are straight through while others flip the (+) (-) from one end to the other. I know my V1 is running on like a 25' cable with no issues.

for awhile I did the same thing, mounted the V1 on the rear deck and had a 10' cable going from the hardwire unit to the audio adapter and a 25' cable from the audio to the V1 unit. I got them both from radio shack and they worked fine. I found that the range, especially off axis, was not good. long, straight, flat roads, there was not much difference but I think the pillars and the seats messed with the off axis detection. this was done with both my 3.858 and my wife's 3.872 in 2 different cars with similar results.

They're flipped, I checked. You can easily tell because the cable colors are visible thru theclear RJ11 plugs. Thanks though.
