I spent some time playing with my new GTimer to try different a/f and timing maps on my ECU management. I drove back and forth on a 4 mile strech of flat highway just plugging in tuning numbers and watching the GTimer for acceleration improvements.
Anyways, there just happened to be a CHP running instant-on Ka trolling the same section of highway I was tuning on. During my 45 minutes out there I saw him pull over a total of 4 cars and 1 motorcycle! Whenever he stopped, he left his rear radar on so I got to repeatedly test my V1 too. I got about 4 miles of front detection and about 3.5 miles of rear detection. The dots above my mirror (where I have it mounted) didn't seem to affect front sensitivity. I held the detector in different spots around the windshield and the V1 seemed unphased when the LEO was parked about 2 miles away.
The only thing that affected it was the elevation angle. Pointing it too far up or down cut signal strength by as much as 1/2 plus it gave false arrow directions to the LEO source as well.
Another thing that affected the arrows were big semi-trucks. I'd be driving away from the LEO with the rear arrow lit up and as soon as I passed a semi, the arrows would dim the rear, light up the sides and flash the front arrow. Shortly after, the rear arrow resumed to lighting up.
I had 1 ghosting issue (3.826). I was programming my ECU while watching the LEO from my onramp about a mile away. It briefly lit up 2 Ka bogeys, but it quickly went away back to 1. Didn't last more than 3 secs.
I thought it was entertaining to watch the LEOs trolling method. After he was done writing a ticket and the driver had left, he would sit in that spot scanning traffic. As soon as he found somebody, didn't matter which direction, he'd persue and light them up.
