Default 3.826 ghosting or 2 legit Ka freq from 1 LEO?

On my way home yesterday, I came across the same officer trolling the same stretch of highway as the day before. The first time I passed him, he was parked on the shoulder with only his rear radar on. I know this because I quickly lost the signal about a half mile after passing him. I turned around at the next exit and headed toward. I was getting only intermittend weak alerts from him from a mile or so away. Just as I was in visual distance of him, I saw him light up the rear tires in an effort to chase after somebody. I was still only getting a mild alert. Right after he merged onto the road, the V1 pegged at full Ka and and the counter increased to "2" but then quickly disappeared back to "1".

Is it possible that he switched from his rear antenna to the front one? Would the transition between the 2 produce that quick second bogey on the V1?

This is the 2nd time this has happened to me while coming up on 1 LEO.

    Good question!
I've always wondered if a LEO has both front & rear antennas on, will the V1 see that as 2 bogeys?
Is it even possible to have both front & rear on at the same time?

Yes it is possible. After a radar signal is turned off, an audio and visual alert will last for a few seconds. So it is possible you had a signal from one antenna persisting while the radar was switched to the other antenna. I have never personally tested what happens on my V1 when I switch antennas on a Stalker Dual, so I don't know what kind of bogey counter behavior to expect. I can make a bogey counter register a "2" by hitting the transmit button on my radar tester, releasing it, and hitting it again.

I'm sure it should pick up two...

The 2 different Ka radars are likely to have slightly different frequencies.

With our tech modes, we can sometimes see different freq., so I would not be surprised that anyone can experience mutiple freq. in your case a second bogey.

Some of the 3.825 owners are also waiting to see if the 3.826 lives up to the hype. I think Outrun's was out in the sun too long. The 3.825 scored well on the previous GOL test, and I get few Ka falses with POP enabled.

BTW Dave, sorry for your loss.

It can be possible that what you get is correct as far as having 2 Ka in your bogey counter. This kind of reading also happens with my X50 - getting 2 Ka threats with a single LEO. You can read the Escort area about getting 2 Ka sources with only a single LEO.

I have also seen this many times with 2 Ka alerts with one LEO.
