V1 1.8 not picking up radar

Hello.

I was out driving around this morning with my V1 3.872 and it was originally working fine. I went to a grocery store and when I pulled into the lot, the V1 was going off because of the doors. However, when I came back out from the store, the V1 was no longer giving me a signal. I then proceeded to drive up and down several shopping strips in areas where I know I get signals and received no alerts. I ran the unit in all modes. I then pulled into a parking lot and ran a laser test by holding the unit in front of my Infiniti I35's gauge cluster. I do not know why, but when the cluster is dimmed, it always sets off laser and indeed, when I preformed the test, laser was working in all directions.

I am not certain as to why my unit would stop picking up radar and was wondering if there were any tests I can preform before sending the unit in for maintenance and upgrading. I believe the unit is running on factory settings and the unit has not been upgraded to 1.85. I am moving to Boston from Columbus, OH on Monday, so my unit could not have picked a worse time to malfunction.

I would also like to add that the start up seems to be abnormal. At P, the start up tones are abnormal (repeating itself) and both the L and KA lights flash several times and several strength lights (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8) light up before cycling through the modes, P, A, L etc. I am the only person who drives the car and have never messed with the unit programming.

Problem appears to be solved after several resets. Now the mystery is, how did the settings get changed?

Well it appears to have programmed its self. Or maybe you have inadvertently switched off K band at some stage of the trip?? Not impossible a spike on start up maybe. Shouldn’t do it thou. The laser alert is normal don’t worry about that it’s just being fooled into thinking the dash light is a laser. Maybe give VR a call or email them I’m sure they will say send it in for a check up. Why not get an upgrade to .893 at the same time.

X2. Give Valentine a call and tell them. There could be a problem with the V1. They will more than likely tell you to send it in for a check. They will have a record that you reported a problem for the future (give your serial number) if you decide to keep it a while and continue to watch it.......

I've been told by "Mike the Tech" from Valentine (not to be confused with Mike V from Valentine...) that a crimped or broken wire in the power cable can cause the unit to reprogram itself.

Otherwise, your unit is in need of a checkup. While its uncommon, units do need parts replaced from time to time.
