    Default V1 reliability?

    Hey all,

I recently picked up an RX65 S7 Refurb directly from Escort, however just a few mins ago it threw a self-cal message at me... I bought this unit in hopes of having a detector capable of picking up Q/T. This is a huge disappointment and it even angers me that I have to spend money to ship it back, however my main question is, how reliable is the V1? I want a solid performer, no nonsense detector.

    -Thanks

get a new v1 and that is exactly what you will get. the crystal tuning of the v1 works well, and it will tell you if it needs to be tuned (if needed...)

treat it well and it will do the same for you.

You get what you pay for. With the V1 you have almost two decades of proven reliability. The others are marketing dreams come reality just a few years ago.

Unfortunatelly I took a gamble and lost, I was seduced by the Q/t capabilities of the rx65. But now I know, will be ordering my v1 shortly.

Nobody here cares what you think. Or can understand you.

Had mine since 2008. Not one problem, EVER. Love the thing. It has been in direct sunlight for long periods of time on hot days, bitter cold, etc. Even dropped once or twice over the years I think.

    You'll love it.

whoa, what? im pretty sure valentine AND escort used to be the SAME company but they split up due to getting in a argument or some mishap... so from what i have learned, no escort is not some marketing dream unlike valentine!

Actually they were never the same company. What happened was, Jim Jaeger and Mike Valentine used to run CMI (Cincinnati Microsystems Inc). Long story short Valentine wanted to make one high end model that the company would sell directly. Jaeger wanted to sell many RDs at different price points through different distribution channels. Valentine said he would buy our Jaeger but in the end the opposite happened. Mike Valentine signed a non compete and got a rather nice amount of money. After his non-compete expired he started manufacturing the V1(1992). VR is different than any escort, and not to mention CMI went bust in 1997 due to something like 10$ million in inventory and lawsuits. So in reality Mike Valentine's model paid off in the long run, but thats not to say Escort makes bad RDs, their just two different animals.
