Default just bought a used valentine one for 150$ and its 3.872 but is it worth it to upgrade

i bought a used valentine... i know, i know, i should not have done that BUT i dont care becuase its newer (3.872) and it wa 150$ and works great. i dont have 400$ to buy a new one in fact 150$ was the most i had but anyways just curious is it even worth it to upgrade in the future to the new 3.893?

another thing, what do you run, L,A,I, or the other shorter (L)? whats best in your opinion?

No need to upgrade unless you need the ESP feature.

check the serial number on valentine's site and see if you have the crystal tuning. if you do, then you got a fantastic deal, and congrats! If not... your unit could be out of tune and not working properly and you would have no way of knowing.

and the mode you run all depends on where you live. x band can be disabled in most locations (but suggested to be enabled when going on a road trip). L and little L are used for the k-band automute programming (search google for this). little l will still alert you but at a lower volume until the signal strength gets higher or it has been picking up the alert for awhile. that is the mode i use

Logic and advanced logic ( little L and big L) are for x band in logic the x band is sounded at the muted volume where in advanced logic x band is not sounded unless the internal computer is sure it is a police radar or is a really strong source. You can download the owners manual on V1s website.

ohh man really? thi sucks becuase my 9500i i bought used thats years old work great. so your saying that my 9500i could be out of tune as well? i dont think it is but man. and what the valentine just goes out of tune by itself? it seems like its working well and picks up farther than my 9500i but i guess like you said i have no idea whether its out of tune or not....

heres the thing, the serial number on the back (544794***) says on thier website that it is the best and most upgraded newest version HOWEVER when i turned it on myself and checked on the detector itself it said 3.872 o i was like wtf!? but i didnt care because it still is a newer version not some older crappy one. so im screwed in finding the crystal tuning thing!

yes, any radar detector can go out of tune. some will tell you if they are out of tune, some won't.

.872 has crystal. So don't worry it's still the sh!T. The .872 is a classic man, it's run the test of time, and my one kicks my red lines "Ass" most of the time. For $150 your cheering. So long it's not a stolen unit.

These are the units to go for!!!!!!!!
The most respected V1 units in recent times are as follows
.813 some still say they are the best!
.826 some people say these are the best!
.872 best one I've had and i have had few.
The previous units are known as in house V1.8 A short while back VR introduced the V1.85 think it started with some beta units and seems to be fixed at the moment ver. 893. VR not only upped the performance level but also introduced savvy, Traffic monitoring and ESP. You can search the V1 web site for more information.

.893 This is working its way into the "cult status" Most people seem to agree this is the "hottest" V1 all round. Think I'll buy one but still keep my .872
