I wouldn't expect V1 to 'ditch' the display they've been using for about 14 years which does exactly what it needs to do. You couldn't get the info from the bogey counter OR the arrows any more quickly or accurately (likely less so) from an LCD screen. I don't hear any current V1 owners who are unhappy with the display. If it bothers you, then you might be happier with another unit, even if it doesn't work as well.Originally Posted by kai445

What lights up the directional arrows? L.E.D. or standard bulbs?
Wow, are you guys defensive! Humorously so! Seriously, the thing would look better (and be easier to read) with an LCD. The arrows couldn't be any more clear, you are right in that respect, but an LCD would allow for a band by band bogey counter (like the X50), and loads of other information that could be toggled through. The V1 display, like all radar detector displays, could be improved upon.
I wouldn't exactly say we're being defensive. I can see the idea of different colored LED's for the warnings, at least for those who want them, but the arrows are brighter and unmistakeable compared to looking at an LCD screen, and the bogey counter is clear and direct. It seems to me that those who call most often for the V1 to be changed, are people who've never owned one. As for adding more information via an LCD screen, I'm not looking for anything else, i.e. warning messages, frequency readouts, etc. which to me are frankly what a detector gets when the mfr can't put anything else on there. V1 does its job its own way. I'd rather not see it laden with gimmicks and unnecessary 'features'. I had a look through the feature list of another 'detector' the other day and I couldn't help thinking 'why do they devote so much attention to all this silly stuff when it doesn't help the thing detect radar or laser one bit better?'Originally Posted by Studdg
V1's been the top for years and years, and there's no reason for it to start copying the (IMO) lesser units on the market. Do you want to look at a radar detector and play with its features or do you want a superior value that does the best job possible? You have a choice.
At a price that is 25% more than a close second place performer, I expect both.
Oh, and a band by band bogey counter isn't a bell or whistle. It's a useful tool that the V1 lacks because of its display shortcomings.
You'll find in life that outsiders frequently ask the best questions.
I don't like the idea of a straight LCD because they tend to wash out in the sun, and we just can't have that. My suggestion would be that they use an Organic Electroluminescent display. That's what I have on my new Pioneer head unit and it's absolutely sick. It doesn't get sluggish in the cold, it doesn't wash out because it's so ridiculously bright (maybe too bright) and it didn't drive the cost of the head unit through the roof (~$250). One of those in red would be a perfectly acceptable solution to me as long as it is large enough/high enough resolution to be easily legible. I suppose they could offer several different display modes like the Belscorts do.
I have had the V1 for over a week now...I wish they would change the display also...It doesn't have to be a drastic change though....Instead of a dot flashing beside the band of radar your picking up, it would be nice to see a "K, KA or Laser" on the display. Not really that big of a deal to me though
Isn't the reason Audi uses a red display on their dash is because your eyes adjust more quickly to the darkness?
That's what I'm worried about the band mod I'm going to do to my remote display...won't know until I try it though...
