Default How much heat will fry the V1?

I noticed my V1 can get scorching hot when I'm driving under full sun on a 80-90 degrees hot day. I'll burn my finger if I touch it for more than a second. There's not much I can do about the heat even with the aircon on. It's just the way it is driving under the sun. Should I be concerned? Thanks!

if you have a newer model it will tell you if it is out of tune. i have driven on long trips in the summer and mine gets pretty hot (i always hide it when i leave the car), but it hasn't given me any errors and still works well.

I have two 3.872 been running in 110 degrees for two years with no problems. Sure heat is bad but they are made to take it.

Is 3.863 bought new in Oct 2007 considered a newer model?

Cool Re: How much heat will fry the V1?

Like with any electronics device if you going to live it running in a hot car while you're gone eventually it's going to be ruined.
That is what I do with my RD's , they have served me for number of years and they never gave me any trouble

I live in Virginia. I have bought @ least 8 or so V1's over the last 14 years. I have never taken my V1's down from their spot in my Excursion or my Mercedes or my wifes car. I have never sent them in for retuning. The one in my Benz is 3.2 years old.

I have never had an issue with any of them... EVER!!!

I think the boat is still out on this one! As long as the spec temp is not exceeded, it will be ok. Heat will break down values over a long time period, so it is best to protect your $400 bucks. I would not leave it in a air tight auto in the sun of temps over 100 all day every day. Might try making a card board hood or something to cover the V1 if concerned....

Turn it off when you leave the car. You will never have a problem with it operating when you are driving in bright sunshine and heat.

I live in a not so hot climate, and my experience with the v1 has taught me that it seems to be more responsive if it hasn't been used for a few days and had been disconnected in the glove box.

I'm basing this on the range i get on known falses every day under various conditions.
