The black box says it all. To those who think it has a 1980s look (how did you figure that out?) and looks outdated, what do you suggest? Certainly not plastic, scanning dots to amuse your friends- did you finally figure out that the dots are useless? Control on top of the detector so when mounted are invisible? The arrows tell it all. Who wants to listen to bird noises and not know where the radar is coming from? Blame it on the gaming industry where dazzling lights baby sit you. I vote for radar detection, good electronics and a company that proven over and over a high degree of reliability.

I do not think that dots are useless. What makes you think like this?

V1 is not plastic, doesn't weigh a ton, doesn't bounce up and down, the controls are easily reached and the performance is next to none. I believe those in the know will tell you the scanning dot did nothing at all. Not related to radar in any form. If I am wrong please advise.

Yep, the V1 remains my choice on long distance trips, so reports of its "demise" are greatly exaggerated.

In your opinion what exactly do you think the blue scanning dots accomplish?

I have to agree. I have owned several RD's over the years but I always find myself going back to my V1. I love the range and SA provided. I have been looing at the MAX 360 but can't justify the $ for it.

I just had a great experience with VR today. One of the V1s I own has some wear visible on the casing ("brassing") and the lenses are in pretty bad shape. They offered to provide me with a new case and externals for merely $49 plus shipping. That's a heck of a deal. This particular V1 has been updated several times and it must be a good 10 years or more since I originally purchased it.

    Can't beat that.

I haven't used the V1 3.813 that much at all since moving out here. It's in the glove box year round and suction cup mount has been stuck to the windshield since 2009. I may hook it up tonight and see if it pings anything fun.

I have used several RD's in my life, most have been Escort and Beltronics (Mostly for the stealth abilities) and out of those, I still like my V1 best of all. You can't beat the SA and still have good range for the cost. Redline is my second best. Even though I live in VA, I still drive w/ my V1 the most. Can't see paying the big bucks for a lower performing MAX360 when I can buy almost two V1's for the price. Valentine Research isn't going anywhere.
