VR has always tried to keep customers happy knowing that a customer is just that a customer- free to shop anywhere. VR prices are reasonable and good turn around time. VR will hopefully be around for quite sometime. Nice alternative to the plastic stuff lol although I own a plastic one.

You should not buy a radar detector for its looks, one should also not buy a pistol for its looks. These items are tools and tools only. You do not buy a tool for its looks, you buy it to do a job. V1's are tools. They may not be all shiny and sparkly and have a new design every four years but they work. Mike Valentine started a company and he put his name on it. A persons name is the one thing in life that is truly yours and when you put your name on a product, you want to make it the best product it can be. Simply because it has YOUR NAME attached for better or worse.
Being a privately held company, Mr. Valentine only has to answer to himself, not a board of directors, not shareholders, no one but his employees and his pride. Public companies and their shareholders demand higher and higher profit margins, they cut costs and raise prices to 'enhance' shareholder return. This can be see in changing over to plastic cases from metal ones, this can be seen when you have a good detector and change the specs so it performs worse, discontinue the previous model and raise the price on the new lower spec model. (But it has electrolytes!) What good is from here to the moon range when here to the next LEO is functional? What good is all that range when you have no clear idea where it is located. When you copy your competitor at least try to make the copied feature perform at least at an 80% level of the original. No product is perfect, and I would hope all are happy with their chosen RD. Over the years, I have used everything from Escort, Bel, Cobra, Radioshack, and Valentine. The only RD's I have recouped 80 to 90% of my original investment on resale have been V1's...Oh yeah, did I mention they work?

V1 is still going strong, just have to know how to configure the settings. It's never let me down yet and I ride a 187mph monster.

I can't say enough about Valentine. I have 4 of them, dating back to the 90's. I always put up with the false signals, usually recognizing the real signals. from a combination of the arrows, numbers and sounds. Now that I programmed with YaV1, it's as quiet as a church mouse. Typically, most signals need immediate attention. I've been nabbed twice because I keep forgetting this. Luckily I was able to talk my way out of trouble. Couldn't be happier. I'm now debating updating a pre-bluetooth version for $289 or trying a Uniden R3. Or just keeping the older version and letting my kids use it.

The V1 has been nearly a "religion" with me. I continue to rely on it when I especially concerned with laser. That being said, the R3 is such an incredible unit in its own right in terms of both extreme sensitivity and filtering (the holy grail, so to speak), that I have been using it quite a bit when I go on driving trips.
