I purchased nearly the first V1 that ever came out. At that time it was a ground breaking design but it had one obvious flaw that became apparent after a bit.
No visual band indicators.
Now EVERY other detector on the planet was updated to this very nice feature EXCEPT the v1
people were literately begging valentine to add this feature.
I believe at the time he said it was totally unnecessary
It took at least two years or more for him to finally hear the outcries and equip his detector with one
If anyone wants to truly experience how perfect the original design actually was which some will argue never needs any changes to it's features take a piece of black electrical tape and cover up the bands indicator.
then you will have the original PERFECT Valentine One !
and if you please can will you video tape your experiences ?

Looks???? You don't like how it looks? You're not supposed to be looking at your RD...YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE KEEPING YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD AHEAD OF YOU!!!!
Maybe a 9500ix Gamer Edition is what you're after?
As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I happen to love the matte black case, gloss black lenses and blood red diodes......it has bad a$$ written all over it. It's all about functionality and it tells you what you need to know.
The "accessories" are available to those who desire to expand upon the basic system and are frankly the best in the industry. They are of true modular design and ingenious in that a common phone cord supplies both voltage and data transfer to/from each module. Just plug it in, no need to tap and splice wires for each accessory.
The kicker is you can option this detector out and have a fantastic stealth install and still be under $500 invested. This package came in at $487 and it looks and sounds sweet.

I am torn on this subject, really. There are things about the V1 that no other detector has that I would not want to part with.
Simple functionality: turn the knob to control volume instead of holding down a button and trying to hit the right level while watching the volume scale, I can set the mute level I want not some predetermined amount that most likely is not what I want all with a simple lever right where it should be...around the main volume control. The same knob controls the modes. Very simple and effective.
Effective functionality I get nowhere else: Direction of threats, number of threats, dependable and accurate ramp-up both audibly and visually. I now also get the direction of each detected threat, it's strength, AND the frequency. No other detector does any of these things today.
Custom Sweeps and Ka Guard off: With this I have the fastest reacting detector around, and now don't have to deal with nearly as many false alerts...not to mention the range of the detector has been increased with this advance. Compare that to another company that has one of the slowest reacting detectors around, and we have literally been BEGGING to get them to fix that...and V1 comes in and offers a very clever and effective way of doing it.
Modular accessories: No cords hanging everywhere, but I can have a remote display, an even more advanced remote display that is connected via bluetooth, remote audio, and many aftermarket options for accessories. In one vehicle I have direct wire, V1 connection, RA adapter and V1. Not a single wire is visible anywhere, and I can move the bluetooth V1 connection quickly by snapping it out of my fuse block and move it to my other car that has a direct wire, CD, RA adapter, and V1...with not a single wire shown, or I can move it to my other truck that has Savvy, RA adapter and V1...again with not a single wire shown. Nothing is dangling from the detector and there isn't crap all over the place. It's clean and neat.
The best windshield mount around: Enough said, there isn't a better one made. The V1 doesn't rattle and jump around, stays put on the windshield, and adjusts so easily and incrementally that it's a wonder why my 500 Redline requires me to BEND the freaking tab to get it level.
Now there are things I wish it had: Higher horsepower engine under the hood (wanting that next advance in tech...like we will likely see from Escort soon). It should be able to perform better with the filtering turned on. I wish it had a display of the primary frequency on the unit itself. I wish it had band priority on the display instead of signal strength priority.
