Thumbs up Great range from V1 using Custom Sweeps - Video

    Hey, guys -
Just wanted to share a quick video with you all as to the range of the V1 using Custom Sweeps vs. c/o Ka 34.7. I'm trying to capture more videos as I drive around town. Finally finished my own custom dash cam mount for my iPhone so I can record videos and still have two hands on the wheel. I have more videos on my YouTube page including my custom sweeps profile.

That's an interesting statement. From what I have learned about custom sweeps, it seems (to me) that using them will only cut down on falses. Response time to instant on radar is well below 3/10th of a second on my V1 so I can't see how custom sweeps can gain you any additional warning time (range).

If I am wrong, can someone enlighten me?

    Who's been teaching you?

Entering Euro mode / Custom sweeps automatically disables Ka Guard which in itself provides a huge increase in Ka detection performance. It doesn't just make response times quicker, it also permits the V1 to alert to very weak signals on a single sweep detection as opposed to having to see the signal on consecutive sweeps.

When you apply custom sweeps and intensify the coverage on just those areas of the Ka bandwidth where mobile radars reside, it makes it even more likely to find that weak signal sooner.......much sooner.

In a test I did back in April, Euro mode / custom sweeps improved detection range to a Stalker DSR 2x by over 60%.

And over sweeping on 35.5 turbo charges the V1 on a frequency that is its achilles heel.

How do you know what frequencies to set on custom sweeps?

Jon_Doh - Hopefully the people on this forums and a few books on speed radar. Unfortunately, whenever I ask a question, I get obscure answers or comments on info not related to my post questions. Then there are the replies that appear to contradict each other.

But, on here, who am I suppose to believe? Everyone appears to be an "expert" on the subject but most replies to my questions are contradictory. So when I make a statement that I believe to be true, I always end up getting opposite info statements from these experts. So who has the right info? Sure, books can have misinformation but so can most people on forums like this one. It does get very frustrating trying to weed out the correct info, if ever I can

Sorry for hijacking the OP's thread.

I appreciate your frustration, but can you answer my question? "How do you know what frequencies to set on custom sweeps?

I just found a post which answers my question on the Ka band. What about the K band?

K-band is a very narrow band and there is no reason to narrow the sweep. Even if you could narrow it, the amount of performance gain that you would receive would not be statistically significant. By narrowing the sweep on K-band you would risk missing a valid K-band signal.

I know for my self w/o the V-1 connection with Ka guard off, which almost everyone knows on this forum already does increase performance on Ka only but also gives you more false alerts from cheap R.D.'s like Cobra making you think a real L.E.O. is running Radar. As RadarGeek says, K-band is such a narrow band running 24.150GHz+/-100MHz it wouldn't do you any good shorting the sweep, unlike Ka band which extends from 34.4-36.0 GHz is a much more wider band to sweep for R.D.'s you would benefit from shorting the sweeps, especially the frequencies the L.E.O's don't use in your area.
