Just bought my first detector, why do I get alerts when passing certain stores, intersections, construction sites etc, its always on the K band?

Some businesses have doors that open automatically. Those doors use something to detect people that want to come in. Sometimes the device to detect them uses a frequency of radar that matches K-band. Not all automatic doors use radar.
As far as intersections, I have no idea, maybe red light cameras use them? I've never had mine go off on just a plain intersection. Construction sites may be using a safety device to warn you? I've never seen that either.
It is common for radar detectors to false alert to Automatic door openerss. From what i know because i have owned a Valentine one and from what i have herd the V1 false alerts alot because it has little filtering to combat false alerts. How ever it has long range detection. If you hate false alerts it's better off to get with the Escort 9500IX. which has GPS to filter out false alerts the range isn't as good as the v1 but i think it's well worth it. I use the Beltronics STi Magnum and i can turn the k band off sens our police don't use k band for there radar they use KA Band. I only do this when im driving in town , when im out of town i turn K band back on to detect the speed cameras that operate on k band.

I think you are spot on.
I have a few older detectors that will pick up any signal instantly but they false so much they are pretty unusable in town. I have heard all kinds of ways owners try to mitigate the worst of this situation with the v1's programing none I really like. V1 has gone now to a vehicle speed sensor microwave mute add on for MORE cost.
it really should be standard with the unit.
I have a nice one that is included in my 650 g that runs off the engine rpms and works just fine at no extra cost.
The stores door openers are telling the V1 to pull you over and buy something! Go to the V1 site and program the unit to quite the unit down some. If in a Metro area, get the Savvy, it can help. Other wise, the V1 is not a city RD. Sell it or do what I do with an unfiltered V1, yes, I turn off the filtering, the way I like the V1 with lots of false alarms (a low volume notice) but I have figured out a method that suites my needs, figure out your needs......
that's why i sold my Valentine One all the false alerts drove me crazy , it was really good at picking up other radar detectors as well.
I don't even think i picked up a real stalker radar with it.
A v1 comes from the factory wide open! Put in little time with the fine tuning chart from v1 and it will be just as silent as other rd's! The way I have mine is x off for x is not used in my state and many others! So find out befor you turn x off! Then I have k will alert at muted volume for 4 sec then will alert at main volume. There are many ways you can fine tune it. If you give a old lady a high tech sports car she will tell you it's crap and sell it
Many on the forum who can advise you on programable settings to choose. They truly do help. Otherwise you will just learn to tune out the alerts, and "walk" into a radar trap.
if you go to a different RD you will very likely miss the arrows. A big loss of situational awareness.
V1, iirc, is the only RD that is continuously updatable. I think its about time my aging 3.864 was refurbished with the latest software and/or hardware.
Feel free to PM me, and I'll do my best to help you get set up if no one else steps up. Its just that I haven't studied the features in a couple years and Im outta date and maybe even outta tune.
