    Default V1 (new user)

I always hear good things about this Valentine V1 but when I read some article regarding laser, I just have little doubt. Can someone have experience with this V1 explain for details. I live is California, most of the cops using laser. In fact I got a speeding ticket last week on local street, he said the speed limit here is 30mph, I was going 45. He clocked me with laser.

So if I use the V1, would I be able to detect laser in the surroundings ? Some other sites say "LIDARís narrow beam makes it nearly impossible to detect until itís directed at your vehicle. In most cases, a laser alert means the officer already knows your speed." If this is the case, even though I have the V1, it will be too late for me to slow down?

I know there are laser jammer but it is illegal in California (so does the radar detector) lol.

But just want to clarify it before I pull the trigger.

I found this link on ebay Free Shipping V1 Radar Detector Valentine One Euro Equipped 1 85 V3 894 New 978465378494 | eBay
Not sure if it is legit. Seller mention about the "new Pop 2 system". Any user experience this ?

    Any help will be great.

    Thanks guys.

As detectors go the V1 is the best for laser detection. Will it save you? No detector will save you with a direct hit but it could possibly detect laser scatter off another vehicle that has been targeted. Depending on your car shape, color, can add time to detect. Veil coating on headlights, foglights, tail lights, and plates can also add time for Leo detect get a reading of your speed and reaction time for you to adjust. So what are you driving? The smaller and darker the better. If you are big and light with a lot of chrome jammers are usually the best option.

Thanks for the reply. I am driving the newer bmw 7 series black color. Its a big car though. I am checking the review the V1 and others also, The Escort Passport Max 2 seems pretty cool also. What do you think. But I like the Arrow lol.
In Los Angeles, I believe both Jammers and Radar detector are illegal. I have a friend go pulled over cause he mounted the radar detector on the windshield. And he got a ticket, its a fixed ticket but still a hassle going to the court.

Before you buy go to V1s' site and compare. For the same money you can get the V1 and an android BT dongle that paired with the android YaV1 app makes for a totally awesome system. The Max 2 is dismal on laser alerts.
Veil along with this setup could possibly cover your needs. Maybe VG can add his thoughts.

Thanks again. I will definitely check it out at V1 site. I am just little confused about the laser. It sounds like once I am hit with the laser, no best radar can help lol.
I don't even know where they cop came from.

I got one question though, lets say I am heading straight and this motorcycle cop was hiding a block ahead of me. Even though if he is "NOT" pointing a radar or laser gun to me. Would this V1 give me alert to have enough time slow down ? Or does the V1 can detect the radar equipment in their vehicles that will trigger the alert. I still think the arrow from V1 is pretty useful when pin point where they are coming from.

Sorry bro, I am new to this device. Just want to get more information on what to get and what has better protection. Cause everytime I get a ticket, they all put "LASER" on the ticket LOL. So I really want something more sensitive on that.

PS: I have tried the STi and 9500 before but I wasn't sure if I set it up right. May be I didn't know how to use the device at all.

Sounds like the V1 is your only hope in detecting laser and providing a save (since you don't want to get a jammer). Your scenario is a good one, if a car ahead of you is targeted its possible your V1 will go off and alert you of the car ahead being hit and you will have time to slow before your the target. But its got to pick up that scatter, and the V1 is certainly the best at detecting laser.

If you have ever used a laser pointer just think about how accurate it is and how little scatter of the light there is as apposed to a flashlight. Its the small chance of picking up that scatter from the beam being bounced off the car ahead of you that you will be relying on to save you. So though its possible, its not the best way or most reliable. Jammer is the best way.

Just always have someone if front of you going faster and hope hes targeted first.

Thanks for the advice. Now I think I would forget about the Escort Max2 even though it sounds good and easy to use, they said no need to setup anything, just use it straight out from the box.
So you guys must be all using the V1 huh? Do you suggest to get it brand new or used? Cause price just huge different but used one I am afraid it will not functioning correctly lol.
Also with the firmware, can it be upgraded anytime when they release new one? This ebay seller Free Shipping V1 Radar Detector Valentine One Euro Equipped 1 85 V3 894 New 978465378494 | eBay saids the 1.85 V3.894 is latest. Do you guys using that latest firmware?

Mr BrownOut :-) mentioned about the Android YaV1 app, it looks super cool. And I also saw this Concealed Display Concealed Display for Valentine One Radar Detector New | eBay is it still a good device to mount it by the dash area, instead of looking up the windshield.

BTW no rush on my questions, Please spend some time with the family during the holidays :-) Reply only when you guys have spare time.

You may want to consider calling Valentine and seeing if you can purchase a "returned" model that can't be technically sold as new. I believe they have a program like that.
