Default Ok time to upgrade V1?

long time lurker here. question for everyone--

I've had my V1 since 2006ish (figured out I have 3.818 on it) and haven't ever sent it in for an upgrade. Finally decided that i'd like some newness back in it's technology and checked the site for what upgrade it said I should get and cost.

Looks like it's $289 but before I send it off thought I'd ask if anything new had been announced coming down the line -- basically didn't want to send this thing off for a refresh and then find out next month that they rolled out a bunch of new stuff that i won't have unless I sent it in again.

    thanks!

Lots of V1 folks throughout the years used to believe (maybe some still do) that if you had a 3.818 that you had the cream of the crop and many refused to update it, stating that the updates decreased some sensitivity and also had more false alerts.

For another $70 you could buy a new referb, test run it for a month and see what you thought before updating it.
As for something new, there's always something in the works and a lot of talk throughout the years that even the "V2" was coming. I've not yet seen it, but it's always a roll of the dice when you upgrade of something brand new and a new leap is always possible (but not likely).

I would upgrade or as suggested buy a refurb'ed. Starting with if I recall 3.85x units can detect errors and also keep a steadier LO. In short, the newer units are less likely to fall out of tune. The new units (3.941(x) (3.9145) and up) also have the junk k filter for filtering out most blind spot warning systems in newer cars. I had to send my unit in for that upgrade as here in Houston the detector would show a constant K band detection anytime on or near the interstate due to high density of cars with blind spot detection.

Whoops. I guess the 3.813 is actually the desired version not 3.818. For the cost of a referb vs. upgrade I'd buy a referb and keep the 3.818 too.
